      Numbing sensation when resting?

Wasn't sure where to put this but I was told before it's somewhat associated with lucid dreams or astral projection so decided to put it here. Often times when I lay down but usually when I haven't slept for a while I feel a tingling and numb sensation in my fingertips and then I feel it in my toes. I'm a fidgety person so I don't usually go past this point but just a few minutes ago I did go past that point. After I didn't move with the feeling in my fingers or toes for a few minutes I felt my body and my lips go numb and it felt like my body was spinning. It then became hard for me to breath and I could hear myself panting. Despite that there was a sort of calmness luring me into a sleep. I embraced it for a second but considering my irregular breathing I became scared I might die if I fell asleep so I fought it off and kept myself aware. I tried to stabilize my breathing by taking deeper breaths that did help a little. Still feeling numb and spinning I was curious if my vision would appear distorted if I opened my eyes like it usually is during sleep paralysis. Opening my eyes I found it wasn't I was able to see everything just as I always do.

Does anyone know what I experienced? It couldn't of been sleep paralysis I felt numb not paralyzed.

      Hey there,

I believe what you're feeling is your body going to sleep. I have the same thing.

It'd start with a tingling feeling, followed by a loss of feeling in my limbs. Sometimes I'll feel like my limbs are lying in a twisted or upside down position, even though they don't. Next will come vibrations and/or floating feeling, as my sense of balance goes to sleep. Eventually I'll stop feeling my body at all. Somewhere during this process I'll start seeing hypnagogic images or sounds. Eventually, I'll be fully asleep. If I'm lucky enough not to lose consciousness at the last step, I'll be in a WILD. Otherwise I'll wake up a little later with a new dream to write in my journal

      Just my 2 cents,

      Hi Shugo332,

It can be scary the first few times it happens. But it's a good sign.

It's the early stages of LD and AP.

Not everyone goes through the same exact details every time, but those are classic precursors.

Many on the forum go through the same or similar.

Next time stick with it and you will be a step or two closer to an LD or AP.
