      Whispers while trying to sleep

Hey guys, not sure if this belongs in the general lucid discussion but anyway...

Sometimes when I try to go to sleep I hear this "loud" whisper really close to my ear. Like someone is actually right next to me, but I can't make out words or anything. I usually jump up after, and feel my heart racing.

I also have SP so I'm kind off used to hearing strange sounds while I'm in that state, but this seems to happen before I'm sleeping.
(I'm saying "seems that I'm not sleeping" because it occurs when I'm lying in bed with my eyes closed)

It appears to happen more often lately and it does freak me out at times , so it's starting to affect my rest. I'm actually considering to buy some ear plugs, but I don't want to get to a point where I'm only able to sleep while using them.

Any thoughts? I have noticed that I haven't had the "usual" SP in a while, where my body is sleeping but I'm conscious.

like you say you hear someone whispering something into your ear but there is none so the stimuli is insight you and therefore ear plugs wont help. i would say this is auditory hypagonia. it is a sign that you are close to falling asleep like sleep paralysis but this things are not necessarily coupled.
i would threat the "whispering" same as the "strange sounds" you already know. acknowledge them but dont focus on it or pay to much attention. soon you fall asleep and it stops.

when you are uncertain about it buy yourself some cheap earplugs and test it for some days then you will know for sure...

Thanks for the reply. The whispers only last for like a split second because it wakes me right up. I guess I'll try to ignore it.

I think I'll hold off on the ear plugs for now, because they'll basically be a placebo. They might work because the plugs could make me feel "safe," but I don't want to have to depend on them.

The fact that you're considering buying earplugs to stop it makes me chuckle (sorry)
The sounds you're hearing are coming from your brain, not the outside world No reason to worry

Sometimes we are already asleep but we would swear we are still awake. I agree that hearing, seeing or feeling things are hypnogogic or hypnopompic hallucinations HH. They ar a sign of falling asleep or already being asleep.

Have you ever tried to enter a LD from there? It's as simple as trying to stand up or roll out of your bed. Not by using muscles, but only mental commands. You can practice during day or next time when you are in the bed. Give your muscles a command to roll to the side and sit up or stand up, as you would normally when you are gitting up from a bed. But stop short of moving the muscles. Only continue the movement in your mind.

Then when you next time having HH, do the same. If you end up standing up next to your bed, or you feel your dream body is rolling of the bed while you know your physical body is still in bed, you will know for sure and you will then be in a Lucid dream. Just simply walk away through the door, phase through the wall or fly out the window. Adventures await!
