Importance of a calm mindset and "not wanting it too much"

      Hey Everybody!

Excuse me if the title is not fully understandable, I couldn't find better words. I will clarify.

This night (or rather morning) I had a short lucid dream. This dream and a couple of my past experiences got me thinking on the "best mindset for lucidity" topic.

Since the past week, I restarted my habit of RCing and started a dream journal for the first time (but I have kept my ADA practice for 3 years now). So we could say that I was "actively trying" for the past days. Lucid dreaming and the techniques were on my mind constantly all day, and I went to bed thinking "I WILL have a lucid dream tonight".

Last night however, I was very tired, and I spent the whole day studying for my maths exams without thinking about LDs or RCing. I went to bed thinking "Sleep is now more important, I don't care about MILD or WBTB, but I have confidence in my techniques and mindset.". It vas a very calm mindset, basically leaving it up to my mind and my confidence wherher or not I will have an LD. Aaand... I had one!

My past experiences are also similar. Whenever I didn't care about practice because I didn't have time or wanted to focus on getting rested, I would have an LD. I think it all boils down to mindset in the end. "I have to have an LD tonight!" Vs "It would be cool if I had one, I have confidence in my practice, now let's get a good night's sleep!"

What are your thoughts on the subject?

I personally believe that taking pressure off LDing (and any other hobby for that matter) is always rewarding. Remember, I'm speaking about the mindset only, consistent practice is given.

In my opinion, this mindset is great! Based on my experience, wanting it too much can cause me not to sleep. I've proven to myself that this state of "Letting go" works for me. I checked my dream journal and all of them I did n't pursue lucid dreaming with an aggressive technique. Heck, most of them I did n't even try! Overall I think it's a great mindset. P.S. Our name is both Player haha except mine has a B.

I can relate to this too. Especially when I am DEILDing, which is my main lucid dreaming method. When I try too hard to reenter a dream, I'll overthink things and become too aware.

When I simply trust myself that I'll DEILD without thinking about it, I have a successful DEILD.

I think a lot of it comes down to trusting myself. Trusting that I've done the right preparation to have a lucid.

It's kind of like planting a seed. If I over-water it, it won't grow, but if I give it the right conditions to grow and then just let it do it's own planty thing, I'll get a plant! Lucid dreaming is the same in my opinion.

I agree with you on this. I think wanting lucidity or anything too much sets you up for self doubt, so just having confidence in your ability is probably the best mindset.
