      Dream views before bed?

Recently I've read that using technology such as phones and computer screens can decrease the quality of sleep and dreams. This would obviously make it harder to become lucid. Has anyone on these forums noticed that turning their phone off and just not using technology for say an hour before bed has a positive effect on lucid dreaming and dreams in general. The reason I ask this is that basically every night I watch YouTube and check dream views for usually and hour or more, and I'm wondering if this could be lessening my chance of getting lucid.

Technology is only having an effect on your sleep and dreams if you're thinking about something related to said technology while falling asleep. For example, if you make a text before going to bed and are thinking about what you texted while falling asleep, this anxiousness is going to make it harder to fall asleep and is going to take away focus that might otherwise be directed towards your dreams.

I'm not sure that technology in itself messes up sleep unless it somehow causes you not to relax or quiet your mind, as dophin mentions. In fact, reading dream- and LD-related material like DreamViews just before sleeping can actually help trigger LDs sometimes just by having your mind on it as you fall asleep.

One area where it might be a problem is during WBTB, or if you do it in the middle of the night, and then expect to get back to sleep quickly. Depending on who you are, bright screens or the mental activity involved in using the devices might wake you up too much and make it hard to fall back asleep very quickly or at all.
