      WBTB Problem

Last night I tried to WBTB, I woke up at around 2:15 am after going to bed at 8:30pm and I stayed up for about 10 minutes and I was reading an iBook on my iPad about lucid dreaming and I had it on the lowest brightness setting possible, also the light was on in my room on the lowest brightness as well. I went back to bed repeating my mantra, "I will lucid dream tonight", and I could not fall asleep for about an hour. What is my problem with not falling asleep? I believe it might have been the iPad brightness or saying the mantra too early in my head. So if anyone could help me, thanks in advance!

As far as i know it's the same if the blue light is still there, i heard there are programs to change the colours on a pc..
Other than that, you should shorten your time awake if staying up for 10 minutes makes you wake up too much.

Also avoid using alarms and instead train yourself to recognize the natural awakenings that happen inbetween dreams. In learning to notice those awakenings, you get the flexibility of being able to do techniques like DEILD or FILD without alarming your brain and messing up your sleep cycles.

Thanks for the advice, also I have trained myself to wake up at whatever time I want to, so I do not need to use an alarm, sorry for not putting that in. I will try this advice tonight, thanks

I think it has a good deal to do with habit, when I was attempting WILDS every day at the start I would lay there for hours, it was pretty annoying. But after a while my body seemed to get the message about what my intentions were. You said you were reciting a mantra, this is a good technique, be sure that your focus is neither too strong (you will keep yourself up) nor too weak (you will fall asleep fully), it is like stringing a bow, it cant be too tight nor too loose.

Also there is the problem of roaming thought-emotional blobs, one should I think develop a certain aloofness to these vagrants who will if you let them jolt your Adrenalin in the case of a exiting or negative thoughts or if it is a pleasant thought they will lead you into hypnotic stupefaction. When these thought bubbles pop up just let them rest unmolested in your awareness, do not try to avoid them and do not let them attach to your mind either, so that you can focus on the method at hand, which is the thing that's going to lead you into the lucid dream state, all the other mental perturbations will only set you off course.
