      Strange experiances during dreaming

So in the last few years, lucid dreaming started coming to me naturally, ive never had to use any of the techniques to do it. Problem is although I'm aware I'm dreaming I can't exert to much control over the dream without waking myself up.

How it usually goes is I either just let events unfold naturally in the dream and can make small changes to the environment or people, usually I try to make a girl appear... for reasons...., or I'll try to fly or give myself godlike powers, same stuff everyone tries I imagine.

The success of this varies between dreams. If I try too hard I begin to feel myself waking up and have to stop.

What that leads to usually is the entire dream freezing around me. No people are there, no new events happen, tho I'm still in control of myself. I haven't been able to alter the dream from this state once I'm there.

If anyone has any ideas why this happens and any ideas on how to strengthen my control over the dream scape it would be much appreciated.

Try stabilizing the dream first (rubbing your hands together, performing RCs, yelling to the dream world, etc.). That should help keep you from waking up. Then, try to change your mentality (which is much easier said than done, I know). Instead of thinking of trying to alter a dream as dealing with a difficult, separate entity, remember that none of it is real! There's no need to 'try too hard' because everything you want can come with no effort. When you're in a dream, think about how literally everything around you is your imagination, and you can do whatever you try. Maybe start small, like instead of letting the dream unfold with minor changes, maybe let the dream unfold, but also walk through a wall at some point. Then try jumping super high, then flying, etc. You get the idea.

Separately, when you 'feel yourself waking up', are you sure you are actually waking up and it's not just your tricky subconscious giving you a false awakening to stop you from meddling with the course of the dream? If you find out it is just a false awakening, it should become much easier to deal with your dream control, as well.

Hope this helps in some way.

I never considered the possibility that my subconscious could do that to stop me from interacting with the dream.

But yeah, it sounds like it may take me awhile to wrap my head around not having to put effort into effecting the dream, and just treating it as thought.

      HI @CHaseSpades

Iv literally just written this reply for someone else in a differant post!
OK..so last night i had my 4th ever Lucid dream, and 2 of those have come in the last 2 weeks just after i started using this site to create my dream journels. I think what helped me was the fact that i have been consciously thinking about lucid dreaming whilst in full consciousness so it makes it more natural maybe in dream state!
now the third time i had my LD i was exactly the same as you, i could be consciouse of being lucid, but everytime i tried to control any aspect of the dream...even just bodily movments..it would cause me to instantly wake up....(VERY FRUSTRATING AT THE TIME).
BUT LAST NIGHT, i had my 1st full experience of a lucid dream and it was remarkable my friend!!
It took practice tho, actually in my dream...i had to continually practice to stabilise the dream before i could be able to easily control most aspects of it..
Now in my "Limited" experience i found that last night the single most important thing to do too stabilise the dream was to find my very own dreamSign!!

Now for me it was seeing my reflection in a mirror, every time i did that it would allow me to recognise that i was not only dreaming but somehow in doing that it stabilised my dream at the same time, so everytime my dream got a bit weak, de-stabilised or i was losing Lucidity i simply reverted back to my dream sign and looked at my reflection in a reflective surface...After much practice, it became a simple exercise to control it...

      GIve it a go.. :-)
