My mind will involuntarily wander (and I might stop noticing external stimuli) any time I'm getting close to sleep, though this normally happens to me just before onset of sleep, not after. Occasionally, I'll catch myself and realize what's going on, though this usually causes an immediate return to full wakefulness, at least briefly. If you're able to keep catching yourself and return to self-awareness, that's a good sign. Keep practicing and see how long you can maintain it while falling asleep. |

You are just daydreaming. If you listened to your audio track during the day, and your mind wandered off, you'd lose track of the sound as well. It's a form of disassociation. If you chose to notice, you'd realize that it happens to you all day already. A similar thing happens when you drive down a monotonous stretch of highway listening to music (or not), and suddenly you find yourself at your destination without remembering the traveled path. You consciously disassociated from your environment, and your subconscious took over the maneuvering of you physical actions. Lying in bed is a different context, but the same thing is happening. It would only be an intro to WILD if you let your body fall asleep as the mental disassociation happened, and you lapsed into a lucid dream with full awareness that it had occurred. |
