Do you pray while you are in a lucid dream ?

Hi Everyone ! I'm new here and I'm french speaking so I ask you to be tolerant towards my english mistakes.

I've been doing lucid dreams for years and I think that I'm usually quite in control. I can for example remember other dreams while I'm in a lucid dream, and also use these informations from those past dreams to help me going through the action of the dream I'm in.

But last night, I had a lucid dream from which I awaked against my will. And I would like to have some help to understand why it happened.

I was in my late grandmother's kitchen and I was very very excited about that. The kitchen looked almost exactly the same as it did in reality the last time I saw it, from what I can remember (It was more than 10 years ago). Even the cat's plate was at its usual place with its old dry can food ! I almost lost my lucidity at the beginning but I've been able to restrain it. Anyway.

I looked into the fridge (after I've became lucid in the pantry) and I decided to cook myself something, to remind me of the good old time I was spending my summer at my grandmother's house. I really wanted this lucid dream to continue and to make of it a great experience. It was very important for me.

So, as I kept bringing the food I've found in the fridge to the table's top, I was each time thanking God to let me continue this dream. I think I felt quite confident, but maybe not. So I brought up about 2-3 ingredient for my nostalgic lunch (smoked meat, carrots and something else I don't remember), and when I went back to the fridge before I awaked, I found a bag of vegetables and herbs from the back house's garden. But it was on the floor, in front of the fridge, and I haven't seen it before. This garden was being taken care of by my grandmother's lodger (M. Boulianne).

Then I awaked, even while asking and begging my guardian angel and God to let me continue my dream. I was very disappointed. What has happened ? Do you think it has some connexion with the fact that I was asking to continue my dream until the moment I myself wanted to cease it ?Was it pretentious from my part ? Or was I not as confident as I thought I was ?

I pray God , for example, when I fly to help me keep my trust in that I'm not gonna be hurt or fall down. But maybe it is not a good idea to address myself to the Lord in these situations. I have the intuition it has something to do with my beggings during the dream... ? Does any of you pray or addresses himself to God during there lucid dreams ? It may sounds weird or stupid, but I was so disappointed that this lucid dream has stopped and I think maybe I've done something wrong that I should not do anymore.

      Hi! Welcome to the forum!

Lack of confidence in self and excitement are two things that research has consistantly shown are LD-enders.

In my own experience, the latter (exceptional excitement) is almost certain to terminate lucidity.

I don't want to hear about the brain from someone that doesn't have one.
Nor do I want to hear about evolution from someone that hasn't evolved.

So it was probably due to my excitement. I was so amazed to be in my grandmother's kitchen. Too bad I didn't knew I had to control my desire. Thank you.

      Dear Caro,

You speak English remarkably well... tres bien! I studied French just enough so I could read half of it, but then circumstances had me switch over to studying Chinese... but I still have quite a litter of French Books laying around.

Regarding prayer in dreams, when it is done almost entirely for the sake of a Spiritual and Religious experience is very beneficial and seems to work positively in most cases. But in these instances we are not asking for the impossible. We are asking for a particular experience instead of some other experience.

But what you wanted to do was to have God stretch the envelope of the time ordinarily allocated for dreams. A Dream is only a part of the Sleep Cycle. One can use certain exercises to increase the length of a dream, but only by increments and degrees. One can do nothing that will make a dream continue indefinitely. Just as one cannot sleep 24 hours a day, so it is also impossible to dream through an entire Sleep Cycle.

So, on these very special occassions, one must of cource continue to pray, but the prayers should be for Wisdom among other things, so that we can concentrate on those few priorities that mean the most to us. In any Lucid Dream, never suppose you have any longer than 90 seconds. No, not even two minutes. What you should have done was to take your ready-made sandwiche out of the fridge and take a big bite out of it and enjoy it, but instead you took up your precious time with running through various chores.

Remember, you only have 90 seconds. Maybe a prayer to the Highest Angle could stretch that to about 2 minutes, but as we look at the Universe we live in, we must appreciate that apparently God has about as many constraints He must live within as we do.

      Leo Volont,

Your answer made me smile of happiness to have gotten such a witty and "sage" answer to my egoistic desires. I'm still smiling while I write that. I think that I was maybe too excited and that kimpossible is right to a good extent, but your wisdom makes me want to come back here on this forum. It is probably true that I was asking for the impossible.

I should simply have tried to stay calm and to go back to sleep to continue my dream instead of being pissed off wondering what I've done wrong, as a spoiled child. I'll remember from now on that I have no longer than 2 minutes. I didn't knew that, but I should have think of it by my own before suggesting that God refused to give me my candy.

I like your voice. It sounds as an old wise man, close to God.

I thought, before going to bed, about what could have increased my excitement before just before I awaked, to find if my level of excitement really increased enough to be that different that it made me awake. And I remember that I found some basilic branches in the vegetable's bag, and I've became very enthusiastic. I love basilic and I couldn't believe, for a second, that I was to cook with it in my late grandmother's kitchen ! And it is at this moment that I awaked.

So I think kimpossible was definitely right, even though Leo Volont's answer to my post was full of wisdom.

      No, I don't pray when I'm awake either .

You're very inactive when you're praying. Why waste (sorry to use that term) an LD praying when you can pray to the same effect when awake?

If I was a religious person, praying would not be at the top of my to-do-while-lucid list. Do something more exciting and stuff you can't do easily while awake...

In that specific lucid dream, I was very amazed, as I said before, to end up in such a good replica of my late grandmother's kitchen, and I wanted to revive an experience I haven't done since years, which was simply to do an exploration of my grandmother's fridge and pantry for to cook myself a salad or a soup or a sandwich. I wanted to cook it myself, as I was doing at the time. I also wanted to do the dishes after.

Do you understand ? It was a nostalgic emotive desire to revive an habit I had in my childhood. That's why I was praying. It was very important for me to go until the end of my plan, and I thought I would need some help to be sure I'll made it. Never underestimate the power of praying.

But I don't pray all the time while I have lucid dreams ! I have lucid dreams on a regular base for a long time.

I am not very good at asking for things however I have done so from time to time. God inhabits his praise. That is to say you can thank god for what you have at any given time. My first LD happened naturally without even knowing what it was called. I saw three men standing at about 15 feet (I remember it all so clear) to my right and I just shouted “Praise You Jesus” over and over again for a wile because I was happy to be able to have such a experience. I was very excited but that did not wake me up. Having already experienced flying in dreams I decided I would take off and fly. Then I landed on a higher piece of ground and just looked around to decide what to do next. Still happy about my situation but no longer praising the lord, at lest not verbally, I decided to take off and fly again. As I took off I felt something pulling me back down and I woke up. I just wonder after reading your post what would of happened if I continued to thank god without stopping.

Here! Everybody, take note. If one concentrates upon reading only the finest literature, and then practices one's writing style some little bit each day, for fifty years, then one can someday hope to "sound as an old wise man, close to God."

      Thank you, Caro.

You know, I supposed all along that my English would be appreciated best by somebody who has made an effort to learn English. The Native Speakers, here, hardly appreciate me.

When I pray in dreams it's usually because i'm battling something and need the light to overcome the evil i'm combating........To me, it sounds as if you just need to have more confidence in yourself and your abilities......
      Becuase I choose to...
