Yeah there's a bunch of apps I've used in the past, I can't remember a single one of them though. And I've recorded my voice saying that too haha, it's a good wee trick

I checked the graph and it seems I did wake up during a R.E.M. period but after I fell asleep I was in light sleep for approximately 30 minutes before going into R.E.M. again. The most important part, whether you do DEILD or ordinary WILD, is to stay conscious. With all your power of intention, stay conscious. With DEILD, repeat "I am going into a dream" in your mind and use all your power to not stop saying it, even as you drift off. If you did exit from a REM period it should technically be possible to enter back into one if you assert your consciousness.
Another hint though, aim for the start of a REM period, if you can.
