      Food in dreams

Yesterday i had a LD, the first in a very long time and the first in wich i had at least a very bit of control over it. Well, in that dream i went into my kitchen and grabbed a biscuit, because everybody says food in LD are better than in reality. Then i took i bite out of it, but it didn't have any taste, nothing. Why is this?

That's probably due to your subconscious making better or worst than it is.

I'm not sure who this "everybody" you mention is, Adrez, but they might be mistaken, as taste is one of the things that doesn't work too well in LD's.

I'm guessing that, because dream imagery tends to be centered around sight and sound, the bits of your perception that process taste (and smell) tend to be unavailable. So when you grab that biscuit, it's very likely to taste like nothing, or whatever the inside of your sleeping body's mouth currently tastes like.

Now, this isn't to say that you can't taste things in dreams, because you can. You just have to give your dreaming mind a chance to spool up the machinery that perceives flavors. If you set an intention to, say, enjoy a tasty biscuit before you go to sleep, you just might discover one that does taste pretty good, as you expected. If you spontaneously decide during the LD to grab a biscuit, try holding it in your hand for a moment before biting, and think about how it will taste, giving your dreaming mind a chance to catch up to your desire.

On a side note, I don't think there is much difference in how things taste in a LD (or appear, or sound, or feel, for that matter), as opposed to a NLD. It just feels different because when you are lucid you are noticing the details of your dream, admiring their precision and occasionally "realer than real" presence; when not lucid you just accept everything you sense as perfectly normal, so the admiration must come upon waking, after the filter of memory has had a chance to diminish the imagery.

Dreaming is always about your expectation. If you expect it to taste good it will, if you expect it to taste bad it will, if you expect sh!t to taste like watermelon it will. If your expectation was that it was a dream biscuit wasn't real I would expect it not to have any flavor, and then it has no flavor. That is my experience.

For me, I have tasted some things in my dreams with the expectation they will taste amazing and they definitely do. But I rarely remember to eat in my dreams; typically I end up flying, exploring, or attempting to have sex.
      Total LDs (some very brief) = 2004: 4 * 2005: 18 * 2006: 16 * 2007: 2 * 2008: 0 * 2009: 0 * 2010: 1 * 2011: 12 * 2012: 3 * 2013: 1 * 2014: 6 * 2015: 1 * 2016: 0 * 2017: 18 * 2018: 3 * 2019: 0 (so far)

If I want to taste something in a lucid dream, I try to do so by practicing it in my all-day awareness. Although sometimes I'm extraordinarily sensitive to what I feel, smell or taste in a dream, most of the time regardless if it is a lucid or not, I don't always taste anything or the food would just like cardboard. Everyone is different.

Edited: OR if you first can't taste something in your lucid, perhaps you can always try a voice or a sense command to regulate your sense of taste. maybe? *shrugs* Just a thought.

Was that a British biscuit or an American biscuit? What the British call biscuits are what Americans call cookies. Not sure what the British word is for what Americans call biscuits. Anyone know? A scone would be similar to an American biscuit, but not quite the same.

Anyway, if it was an American biscuit, maybe it didn't taste like anything in your dream because they often don't have much flavor IWL.

Yeah, I had a Lucid food dream this afternoon about eating a raw oyster and drinking soda... In this dream, the raw oysters had a sweet lemon taste to them. They were just slimy and chewy but, other than that they didn't have much taste in the dream. Slimy yet satisfying.
