I'm not sure I will be able to explain this to convey the events to you people sucessfully, but I'll try. First I'll start with a little bit of history. Usually when falling asleep I will get several instances where my imagination will start coming up with things that make no sense, and I realise soon after but this continues for a bit. After that the same thing will happen but I will slip into a dream during the course of it, and wake up soon after. This happens a couple of times before I finally fall asleep and they are never very deep-sleep dreams. |

"Dreams are as portals. Flat visions of misty places. But I can write dreams!" - Myst Uru
Basically like a full-on dream throughout that is faded into from consciousness, but upon waking from it, it is unmistakably clear that I was never asleep. Its a very tough call. |

Barbizzle is probably right. Occasionally, when I'm falling asleep, I'll start seeing things more vividly than I could possibly imagine them, and it's almost dream-like, but I'll still be awake. It's probably the result of daydreaming directing the hypnagogic imagery that you're seeing, or at least directing your interpretation of it, causing you to see what you do. I've also noticed that imagination often tends to become more vivid when going to sleep, another possible factor contributing to whats going on here. |

I call these things "dreamlike states" , because they arent exactly dreams. |
