Strictly in the dream. I never allow dreams to create false memories that affect my waking life. I always identify them as dream-injected false memories immediately.
Only after reviewing my dreams, upon waking up, in traditional reverse-order to collect idea assortment then forward-order to build plot did I realize that I had these false memories during the dreams.
I suspect this is how such false memories that affect waking life may present themselves. Of course this would only affect those that do not acknowledge dream experiences as dreams and occurrences that didn't take place in waking life.
