      Wink

      Hi all.

Before I say anything, sorry if i'm posting in the wrong forum. I don't know where this goes.

      Anyways,
I've been trying to get to sleep. I've been saying to myself that I WILL have a LD and that i'll remember it (after about 4 or 5 weeks of thinking 'Am I dreaming?&#39, then my heart sorta begins to pound, and, like, I can feel my heart more than anything. I try to ignore it, but I can't. The feeling of it beating prevents me from sleeping. Do you know what it is that causes this and how to stop it from happening? I have had little or no problems with my heart in the past, and I have nothing wrong with it, it just happened about 20 minutes ago, actually. It's still sort of happening now, but the computer it distracting me from it.

All help is much appreciated. Again, sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong forum (gee, I'm a n00b! :yumdumdoodledum: )

      Cheers,
      Molly

I think you are getting over excited. You're nervous about the whole ordeal, and you want it so bad, that you are concentrating on your heart...Anything like that can distract you. Try concentrating on your breathing instead...Just get your mind off of your heart. I'm sure that with time, you'll hardly notice your heart.

I concur, At times I get very nervous and neurotic about certain things, and I certainly can understand fixating on one bodily sensation. Pobably you are overly excited over this, but, even if its not concious, Try and just, like Gwendolyn said, focus on your breathing and also on just relaxing your body. Tell your mind, "worrying will do nothing for me", my heart will keep beating so i need not worry about it". "I am soon going to enter the dream world where anything is possible and whether i'm worried about my heart or not" (you might as well not)"i'm able to lucid dream".

(Sometimes when I lay my head sideways on a pillow i can "hear" my pulse, it sounds odd I know, yet actually my artery moves the pillow a little with each pulse, eventually you'll learn to tune all these little things out because they really don't matter.)

(Perhaps some light quiet music can comfort and put you in a relaxed state while you think of lucid dreams and forget about this heart stuff)

Good luck and continue to ask questions, perhaps you can help me as well?

      Hello mollyrulz9999..

You're trying too hard and getting excited. Nothing unusual about that. Very common. You've got to let it go and relax.

Some times when I wake up, my heart is racing and I'm breathing heavily. I noticed that this usually happens when I wake up too early to have made it to REM, like I was in slow-wave sleep. Since that's the part of sleep that night terrors happen in, I thought that might be the case. Still, usually night terrors don't come from nowhere, they happen if you had surgery as a 3 year old and other traumatic events so i'm not sure.

Sometimes I'm not even sure that I fell asleep at all because it happens pretty quickly, I don't know if this applies to you... but there's my 2˘

Just relax and go to sleep. Telling yoursel you will have a LD does nothing. You will not remember it in the dream, trust me. By the way, you suck at Pivot (avatar)

Oh, so I'm doing it all wrong then? Even though talking about how I am doing it (which you say is wrong) is completely off-topic of what the topic is all about? I didn't even say if I was doing it as a teqnique

That was my friend's first animation with Pivot, by the way. I made one with the BETA 3 version and put it on YouTube. I could show you, but you probalby wouldn't believe I've done it, because I have a different account name on there.

      ANYWAY,
I read a book and watched a bit of TV, I eventually went to sleep, but I still couldn't stop my heart. Perhaps I SHOULD take a different way of approaching it, like SOMEONE I KNOW thinks I should.

Other people were telling you to not get over excited and I figured telling yourself to have an LD was part of the problem. It is very difficult to remember to have a lucid dream just by telling yourself to have one. Chances are you'll forget while in the dream. I was just trying to help
About the pivot thing, I wasn't putting you down, I was just kidding. Learn to take a joke

Lol, sorry. I never really take jokes very well, which is why I tend to be serious when i'm chatting over the net or something, however, I like slipping the odd joke every now and then. As I said before, I'm such a n00b

Also, sorry 'bout goin' off at ya about it as well. I never like to go off at someone who does something wrong. I cry sometimes, in fact. (another sign that i'm a n00b )

      hehe,

I suppose I was getting a bit desparate do do LDing, so I guess I must've gotten excited. I know that I only have to think 'am I dreaming?' (unless I'm wrong) and make sure I get plenty of sleep. Since yesterday I'm going to bed at 8 in the night, which is about 3 hours and 14 minutes away, and before I go to bed, I always have a bike ride down a track (we're in a suburban/rural area, got cows down the road lol ) to clear my head, which gives me room to think about myself, which i'll think 'am I dreaming', and it also gives me a bit of privacy too.

I don't know if this will help, but when I'm running at lacrosse practice and my heart is going really fast, my coach says to breath in through your nose, and out through your mouth.

Oooooooooh, that's good advice. Yeah, I heard about that, but I never really tried it. I'll try that tonight and i'll tell y'all if anything's happened tomorrow when I get home. I might go for a bike ride now......after McDonalds!

Lol I was going to say that. McDolnalds is an artery blocking mechanism.
Anyway, sometimes if you just let your heart do it's thing, don't focus on it but dont try to get it out of your mind, then eventually you will just forget about it and your mind will wander.

lol, nah, I only have it, like, once or twice a month. Clearly enough time to un-clog the arteries if I exercise. And they do have healthy foods, you know? They got McCafe to prove it. but I didn't get anything there. I had 10 nuggets. Oh yeah. I'm going to sleep now. Hope I have a Lucid Dream. Night!

One thing you should know is that just doing reality checks isnt really going to get you an LD, have you read anything on this site? Maybe you should check out the dream views index or the tutorials, also try eating a banana before bed,it has B6 in it which can help you have an LD.good luck

The method you are using is known as MILD. It's where you keep telling yourself you will have an LD. It works for some people.

Yeah, that's the one! Yah, I've read the site. All the way through, it's just that, since then i've forgotten a few things, but I do know that the default way (for me anyway) is to tell myself 'am I dreaming?' over and over again in my head, and then I'll say it in my dream. correct me if i'm wrong.

oh yeah, a_dude, just so you should know, we have no bananas.

It's not healthy, its just not un-healthy.

Yeh asking yourself if you are dreaming does work. But you have to focus on it. Not just do it absent mindedly. After you have found a few reasons why u arent dreaming say to yourself. " Because I can/can't do _______ I am not/am dreaming"

you may want to let a doctor examine you...

Then get some. I don't think they're that expensive.

I've had this problem sometimes, also generally when I'm not doing anything. Not sure if it's quite the same thing, but I had the problem that my heartbeat didn't speed up, it just was pounding in my ears... it got louder. It really annoyed me. It didn't even sound like a heartbeat sometimes, but like some kind of zooming noise in my head. Like the tardis for anyone who's seen Dr. Who. I could never just ignore it, I always got up and shook my head untill it went away. I haven't had it for ages now though - I didn't notice it was gone till I read this. How old are you Mollyrulz. Maybe it's got something to do with growth I'm just guessing here though.

      Hope it gets better

You can call me molly, and let's just say that I am of the 'younger' generation. Like, not older than 18

I'm glad that there's someone else that has the same 'problem' as me. It's sort of vanishing, but it does tend to go every now and then. I think it was just a false alarm. Not sure though, but I think it is

damn, I had my first lucid dream just by reading about lucid dreaming all night and eating a banan before bed. Try it when you get some.
