      Hi,
Sometimes I wake up at night and its pitch black. I feel my way around my room to get to the light switch, and it doesnt work. Its happened to me a couple of times. Is this a lucid dream? Coz it seemed pretty real!
Thanks Nathan. Oh and the other day I had a my first lucid dreams. Does how much sleep you get induce lucid dream. I went to bed about 1.00 at night and woke up about 4.30 in the morning, stayed up at for about an hour and a half, then went back to bed. In one of my dreams I was in a classroom and I wrote things that were on the classroom board on a piece of paper so that when I woke up I remembered my dream, because I would have the piece of paper with me when I wake up. But obviously I didnt have the piece of paper, duh.

That depends on if you realize you are dreaming. If when you flip the lightswitch and it doesn't work you realize you are dreaming, and know it is a dream than it is Lucid. The fact that the lightswitch isn't working does not make it Lucid. That is your dreamsign. What you need to do is RC everytime you see your dreamsign, so you can get a lucid dream. You are lucky, because broken light switch can easily induce lucidity, but just having it not work does not make you lucid, as the definition of Lucidity is knowing that you are dreaming, and if you aren't aware of the fact that you're in a dream, you're not Lucid.

Actually, thats known as a "false awakening." But this can be your first step to having a lucid dream. As other have mentioned, you can easily train yourself to recognize these false awakenings as a dream side and thus use them to induce lucid dreams. The first step is writing down every single dream you have which will help with dream recall. It seems like you may already have a decent dream recall. Then you need to re-read your dream journal and try to discover a common symbol you can use as a dream sign (for example, light switches not working). Then train yourself to recognize these symbols and tell yourself that you are dreaming, or do a reality check. It sounds complex, but read a bit and it will become second nature. Hope that helps.
