      Punched in the face

So I was taking a nap and felt like it would be a good time to try to LD. I dozed off for a bit and all of a sudden I felt like I got punched in the face and heard a loud pop. It really startled me.

I think I've read about this happening to other people before, but not to me. Anyone know what it means?

It's never happened to me before though. Isn't the exploding head syndrome a recurring thing?

I wouldn't call it "recurring". For me it just happens randomly. There's gotta be something that triggers it though because sometimes I will like 3 in a row, then not have it again for a really lond time. Maybe it's a type of hallucination caused from sleep-deprevation or something.

It's a side effect of Lucid Dreaming and is very serious. You can tell from my high post count and join date that I have much experience in this field of study.

Nah, just kidding, I have no idea. Never happened to me before.

This happened to me a bit in the past, though it didn't feel like I was getting punched. It was just really loud.
Once it happened that music was playing in my head as I was falling asleep, and it slowly got louder and louder until I woke up again.

It's the first symptom of spontaneous human combustion.

OK, seriously it sounds like a hipnagogic hallucination.

Heheh, this happens to me too every now and then, and always when I'm dozing off in the middle of class... you know, one of those classes where you might as well not even be there because you're not really learning anything

I've never felt any ill effects from it, aside from extreme embarrassment.

This happened to me once without having any dream recall at all. I cant recall what the sound was but I remember screaming my head off and couldnt get back to sleep. Very tired the next day
