      Practing LD with a SO

I live by myself right now, but I'll soon be moving in with my girlfriend. I don't want to have just moved in and start waking up in the middle of the night to keep a DJ, or to set the alarm in the middle of the night. How do you guys (or gals) do this. Does your SO join you, or not mind you doing this? I don't think my girlfriend would join me in doing this, nor do I think she would deem this practice important enough to warrant having to wake up to alarms and such.

One other thing regarding this. I guess I would say I'm the "cuddly type". Whenever I sleep, I tend to spoon or hold my girlfriend. How will this affect my ability to obtain lucidity?

Hahaha. "Spooning" is not something that would affect your ability to LD. So long as you sleep fairly deeply, or are not easily awakened. If your gf would mind you setting an alarm...don't set one. You can train yourself to remember every time you wake up. You wake up after every REM period. I've gotten my dream recall, for example, to the point to where I can wake after my first or second REM period, remember that I'm awake long enough to write down a dream, and go back to bed. If you can do this after every REM period, you will wake up about 5-6 hours after you sleep, thus giving you the opportunity to WBTB. Goodluck.

Good to hear. My biggest worry was that movements during the night would interrupt the process. Hopefully I'll be able to get the auto-waking down. I'm an abnormally heavy sleeper though, and it takes me a while before I get fully awake. I once had a 30-minute conversation with my girlfriend in my "sleepy mode" and I didn't remember it in the morning. Guess I'll have to keep on trying though. Practice makes perfect.

this might help with waking...but if you have a mobile...put it on silent and set a reminder, not alarm clock mode; but a reminder (because alarm clock makes a noise even if its on silent)

and put it in your pillow case, underneath. its silent but vibrates your pillow massively and you wake. works everytime for WBTB, although i am concerned about that whole phone radiation thing; and sleeping with your phone under your head may not be good. you could take the sim out.

The whole "phone radiation" thing is a debunked myth. Don't worry about it. It's been proven that it takes much stronger waves and signals to have any effect on the human body, or even smaller animals such as rats and mice.

jeffoncom, I'm married and my husband knows that I have this little "hobby" but he doesn't get into LDing at all and he barely remembers his dreams (unless they're disturbing).

What I recommend if you're married (or have to share quarters) and, if you can afford it..(and you think "vibrations" would wake you).. is getting an "Invisible Clock".

This small clock can be set to vibrate or beep or both. There are three vibration levels and you can set up to 12 alarms! I often use the vibration setting on the highest level, wrap the small clock in a face towel and simply lay the clock so that it's pressed against my body. The vibration isn't "jarring" and another plus to a vibrating clock is that it doesn't disturb anyone else when it goes off (not even my husband who is laying right next to me)!

Below is one of the websites that sell the Invisible Clock: http://www.buddhasplace.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=IC101&Catego ry_Code=Clocks

BTW.. I am in no way affiliated with this company.. I just like the product!

Thanks for the suggestion. Not a bad idea with the invisible clock. How strong is the vibration though? I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, so I'm worried it wouldn't wake me.

Well, it won't knock you out of bed. :p

What I have done in the past was to either hold it in my hand while I slept or lay my hand on top of it as my hand rested under my pillow (if that makes sense) while I slept.. but with these methods you run the risk of waking up wondering where the heck it is. That's why I just put it in a face towel and lay it pressed against me while I sleep.

I can't predict if the vibration will be strong enough for a pretty heavy sleeper. You could always try it and return it if it didn't meet your needs.
