      Interrupting sleep cycles/WBTB/WILD

      Hello everyone,
I'm a new member, but I'm familiar with this forum. Anyway, I noticed that many people advise awakening during your REM period when using the WBTB/WILD methods. Why is this? Does it take less time to re-enter REM when you wakes up in middle of it? And does this mean that your body continues from where it left off in its sleep cycle when you go back to sleep? For example, if you woke up after 5 1/2 hours(6 hours=4th REM period) of sleep, would that mean that it would take your body about 30 minutes to enter REM, in addition to the time it takes to relax your body back into sleep? Thanks in advance.

I'm unsure. Why would I want to re-enter a half-finished REM period, as opposed to entering a brand-new one, ensuring I get all the time I can for the effort? It confuses me, too.

I'd think it'd take a little longer tok re-enter, due to you going back to Beta waves when you do wake up for WBTB.

I consider interrupting an REM cycle as kind of a "crutch" or "cheat" to achieve LD. Sure, it is possible to enter LD from a non-REM stage but I've personally found that the transition from non-REM to REM tends to be very unstable which means your LD will be cut short. Instead, especially for beginners, the wbtb in the middle of an REM seems to awaken the mind enough while the body remains very tired so that a somewhat more stable LD possible. With enough practice that person can take off the training wheels and begin LDing from non-REM into a full REM cycle.

This is my personal experience and feedback from other LDers. I think people like Abra who can enter LDs from a non-REM are either very experienced or just have a natural ability that most don't have right off the bat.

What? I'm still a WILD newb. My WILDs are far, few and in between (read: one per season, lasts only a couple minutes, if I'm lucky). Did I come off as experienced? Ha! xD

Perhaps that's what I've been doing wrong. I've been waking during NREM for a WILD attempt. This morning, I woke up during REM, but felt too disoriented and tired to WILD (I couldn't even count to thirty without drifting!). Maybe you've just identified the premier barrier to my WILDs!
