Hey there,
How people call dreams tends to vary a lot on the individual. So I doubt you'll get a clear answer here. Some people consider every dream in which you knew you were dreaming to be 'lucid dreams', others tend to make a difference between 'semi-lucidity' and 'full lucidity' based on addition factors, others use even more classifications. There's many levels of lucidity (in fact even the words 'levels' isn't a good description, as its really a continuous scale).
Personally I use three different terms: Awareness Dreams, Semi Lucidity,
Lucid Dreams. But as I said though, this is very subjective! For me:
- An Awareness Dream: is a dream in which you know you are dreaming, but do not act upon this information. Rather you keep the knowledge in the back of your mind, knowing that nothing can really hurt you, that none of it will have a lasting effect, that you don't need to worry because you're dreaming. But you continue dreaming as usual.
- A Semi Lucid Dream: is a dream in which you realise you're dreaming, and begin to use that knowledge, but are still caught in the 'dream plot'. You might give yourself superpowers, you might do dreammanipulations that help you with whatever the dream is throwing at you, but you continue to go along with whatever dream you find yourself in.
- A Full Lucid Dream: Finally is a dream in which you not only know you're dreaming but can actively use this knowledge to pursue your own agenda. You can chose to continue with the dream as is, or ignore it. You can make a new dream, you can invent your own plot, you basically have full choice to do what you want to do.
As you can see, for me the 'awareness of dreaming' factor is interwoven with another factor, ranging from having a passive awareness (ie going along with the flow) to having a full active choice (ie making the flow ). Again though, others have different ways to describe their levels of lucidity.
Hope that helps,
