Can you keep an alternate life in the dreamworld?

I was thinking about Alana Mareva's power (from The 4400). For those who don't know about it, she can make people experience very realistic alternate realities. These experiences inside the dreamworlds can last from hours to years; but from the perspective of the real world, they only take a few minutes.

That, of course, reminded me of lucid dreaming. What if you had an LD spanning several years? What if you could dilate time enough to grow up, find a job and settle down, or build a city, or become an legendary hero from scratch, in only one night? Do you think it's possible?

      Possible, but not probable.

I doubt anyone would have the capacity to remember another lifetime of memories.
      Are you dreaming?

I dont think in one night, however probably possible. Having a continuous life in the dreamworld stretching from one night of sleeping in reality to the next is quite possible, and would be extremely cool!

I think this would be great as long as you don't get too attached to your alternate life. I've heard of people having dreams lasting Years in the dream world, but none of them lucid.

I wouldn't make an alternate reality my goal for LD. You should never get too attached to dreams. Life is too important to make it number 2 on your priority list

It'd be a cool goal, I think. Building a dream reputation in a dream community. Being The One. Damn cool. I doubt a high quality 'life' would be possible in one night, but I think the most possible avenue would be this: one could trick the brain into creating a year's worth of false memories while lucid. False memories aren't the hardest things to make, but once again, there's the issue of quality (and structure, and plot). I prefer joining several lucids into a cumulative adventure instead of trying to do everything in a single dream. It makes it all the more worthwhile.

I think the only way you could do this was to enforce strict rules on your dream world, that would stay in effect throughout nearly every dream--which, in itself, sounds extremely difficult. Otherwise, the dream life would be extremely jumpy/random and frantic.

I bet a person with a really strong mind and finely honed creative skill would be able to do something along the lines of living in a consistent alternate dream world, but I think it would still be subject to the random nature of the subconscious mind.

Yeh it would be great to be "The One". I also agree that it would be very difficult to gain a seperate life in a single night, In fact ever. I mean you would have to get a home, a job, a partner, some friends etc..

I know this isn't what you're talking about exactly (I'd say one night would be impossible) but it would be so awesome if you maintain a constant dream universe every night as well as recurring characters. It could be like a different theme or a new episode of a tv series each night! This is totally implausable though, only dreaming I guess

I suppose if you have enough control over your dreams you might very well be able to do this. You'll have to get quite good at at having and maintaining lucid dreams first so you can really make it into another "reality". I think it's been done, but it's not easy.

As some of the others said, it's a cool concept, but the thought of getting wrapped up in another life that is not real is kinda scary.

In several of my lucid and partly lucid dreams, I've dreamt of being another person, and I have had dreams like that with a plot and story that has spanned over several dreams, but always in the same night. Like being in the middle of a movie, acting it out.

Why would they be flase memories?

You lived it right? Then why would they be false?

You can keep an alternate life in the dreamworld...though it's one that requires your constant attention or else...your dream wife and dream kids will disappear.

I have writing a list of goals if i decide to start this alternate life.

      Goals

I will get a girl (i know who).
Get place (don't know where yet).
Get a job (undecided maybe become a pilot or run a club) Think of any cool jobs???
      Get some awesome celebrity friends.

Thats all that i have thought of for now. I have found a problem with getting a place in that i may become lucid where my place isn't. How do i get there with my crap dream control?

If anyone is doing this what are your goals?

If I could create a funtional alternate reality in dream life, I'd stop living the real life I've got.

If a person can do this (I think it probably can, but not a whole life, maybe just a day - which would be cool, too) it would be awsome. And if you can make a diffrent life every night, it would be so perfect. And if you can expand time in dreams, you can do things which would be verry usefull in real life - example: you have a disscussion to make, about "keeping the enviroment" for school - you have a whole "life" to think about it, and get some perfect arguments, think of every way and everything the oponent can say, and dodge - and be fully prepared by just sleeping. It would be so cooooooooooooooooool, and as every lucid, you can wake up whenever you want.
