What do you do before bed to help for lucids?

I need some help on what to do before bed to help for getting lucid every night. This doesn't include when you wake up for WILDS, WBTB, etc.
The only reason I'm posting this is because sometimes i listen to music before i go to sleep and when i wake up i can't even remember my dream, which is very unusual for me. So if anybody has any tips they want to share with me on this subject that would be AWESOME!
Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

Mind the position you wake up in.. Same with falling asleep, BTW.
Few even think it is possible to know though...

The better I got at knowing/minding the positions, the easier it has become..

Sometime, I even move after waking up, and forgett all dreams, but recall that I recalled them moments ago. Then I return to the same possition I woke up in, and all the memory of the dream(s) are/'come' back..
Not sure what this is though, interesting stuf. Might just be placebo.

(I cannot help others directly, but might be able to do so; indirectly! ...by showing how I hepled myself.)

Personally what I do every night goes as follows:
      - Firstly I get relaxed, get comfortable, empty my mind a little.. then I repeatedly remind myself that if I have a brief awakening in the night, I must attempt either a FILD or I_H8_Reality's '100% method'... and perhaps just briefly rehearse either

      - Next I do something BillyBob recommends in his tutorials, which is to think about and perhaps visualise what you want to do if you get lucid.. I suppose it increases your motivation to get lucid that night, etc

      - Then I do the whole MILD thing and tell myself I will have a lucid dream tonight.. I will have a lucid dream tonight.. I will check my reality, will critically analyse my surroundings.. ideally I try and fall asleep as soon as possible after this part, but I've been finding getting to sleep a bit difficult over the last few days..

That said I haven't had a single lucid dream since I adopted this method so why should you listen to me .....although I have only been doing this since the weekend so we'll see...

Just read a book 30mins-1hr before you go to bed; novels are particularly useful. What happens when you read? Your mind creates landscapes, characters, and situations based on the material. What happens when you dream? Your mind creates landscapes, characters, and situations based on thoughts and memories.

Or you can follow all these b.s. tutorials, and become discouraged when they don't work.

As long as I am not sick or totally exhaused I have one or more LDs 6 out of 7 nights a week. I haven't always had this many. The ways I have increased my LDs follow:

      1. During the day constanty question what is real and if things make sense. The only problem with this is that sometimes I'm not sure if I am awake or asleep!

      2. Think about LDing throughout the day. Think about your goals, LDs you have had, techniques you have tried or read about.

      3. Have a set routine for getting ready for bed, even if you can't have a routine bed time. Include in your bed time routine thinking about LDing. My routine includes choosing a goal for my night's sleep, like wheter or not I want to LD, or work on a goal, or simply get some rest. I also always do a little stretching before getting into bed so I will be more comfortable.

      4. When I get into bed I allow my mind to make a review of my day for a few minutes. I let my mind wander over the events and problems. This should be somewhat relaxing. If I find I am getting to focused on one problem or event I gently push my mind back into wander mode. Once I feel like my mind is ready to deal with those events and problems during my dream state I go onto phase two of falling asleep for me. This is:

      5. I recall the goal I have for the night and come up with a short sentence or phrase that sums up that goal that will be my mantra for the night. I repeat my mantra for several minutes in a calm, somewhat unfocused manner until I feel myself drifting off to sleep. If I find myself becoming more alert I return to repeating my mantra until I am ready to drift off to sleep. This is how I DILD so much. Examples of my mantras are, "I will become lucid," "I will sleep well," "Say, 'I'm dreaming.'" Saying "I'm dreaming," is often how I become lucid during a dream.

      6. If I awake and realize I have not had a LD or reached my night's goal I go back to bed or take a nap later in the day. Generally I sleep 3-6 hours and then wake up. I get up, out of bed for a few minutes and then go back to bed. When I go back to finish my night's sleep I repeat my mantra phase of falling asleep. If you don't wake up on your own during the night, try setting an alarm. You don't have to be up for long, just long enough to go to the bathroom or something like that.

Two other tips I can offer are to take vitamins every day (I take a B-vitamin complex, as well as vitamin E and calcium) and to eat a little bit of chocolate before getting ready for bed.

I hope this helps! Good dreaming!

I sit up listening to the grumblings and guglings of the internal organs that I have left (dont have a stomach, gallbladder, apendix or some lymph glands, 26 actually) as my evenings food and drink noisily makes its way through my patched up and left over digestion system. Burp and fart a few times as the built up air finds an escape route and listen to the wife snore and the cat, that has occupied a small gap on the bed between us, purring.

Not quite the answer that you were seeking. Sorry about that but you did not set any parameters when you asked the question. At least my reply is more descriptive than Idolfan's.

I will get to an LD routine before sleep when I have finished the medical treatment I am currently undergoing and my internals settle down. ATM its hard to concentrate.

try getting less sleep at night, so you're tired throughout the day for a while. Plan on taking an afternoon nap when you're just so tired that you can't stay awake any longer. When you are thinking about going to sleep (like 15 minutes before you go to bed) say to yourself "I'm gonna take a nap and LD."

Let this be your last though, and as you close your eyes, pay attention to the darkness that you see when you close your eyes. Whatch the darkness turn into shapes, but view them with a meditative approach. Look at the pictures that pop in to your head and let them float away. Don't dwell on anything, accept it and let it go. There's only one thought seed in your head right now, and that's the FACT that you're going to LD. Before you know it you'll be LD'ing!

that's what I do when I really wanna LD anyways....napping is golden for LD's!

      lol

I like to listen to the radio and/or music. IDK if it helps with lucids but if I fall asleep with it on then I will wake up in the middle of the night so I can remind myself to LD. I think relaxing is the main thing. Being stressed usually causes me to have weird low level dreams about taking tests and stuff (and memorizing things that don't exist, o those ones are killers). I find being comfy in bed helps too, which is why I have my electric blanket cranked up and my soft blankets all around me.

I would definitely need to get tired somehow because i can NEVER go to sleep when i want to, and naps throughout the day sound like a great solution for my situation.

Try a mild.... I do this even every night though my mind always wanders.

Basically just repeat to yourself, "In my dream, I realize I'm dreaming and become lucid" over and over and over.

It's simple, doesn't interrupt your sleep schedule, but (for me at least) It's not very effective. I like to think it helps!
