      lucidity with sleeping pills?

Ever since i first became a member i remember people saying that sleeping pills suppress REM sleep and made you sleep too deeply to remember/have dream. now i dont know what to believe. last night i had slept for about 3 1/2 hours when my brother came home from work and woke me up. I couldnt get back to sleep, so i took some asprin pm hoping that would help. It made me tired, but i didnt go to sleep right away. I was very suprised to find myself in the vibrations of a WILD about 20 min after i took the pill. Of course i didnt WILD, i was too suprised. But still i remembered my dreams in the morning, and i got the vibrations. Perhaps we could use these for WILD. It sure made the vibrations come easy. Maybe all that bad stuff about sleeping pills is a myth? what do you guys think?

Nah, sleeping pills supress REM, but that doesn't mean you won't have it. You'll just have less.

From time to time I take prescription sleeping pills -- Rozerem. So far I have not noticed a decrease in lucidity when I take them. However, if I have to take them more than three nights in a row, THEN I see a big diffrence in lucidity.

Last night I took some Tylenol PM because I couldn't sleep and didn't feel all too great.

And I woke up twice because I told myself to wake up 5 hours after I went to sleep and then I woke up after another 2 hours of sleep.

      I didn't remember one dream.

I thought I was just worthless, but after seeing that they surpress REM, I don't feel as stupid.

That would be something cool to experiment with, also has anyone tried lucid dream induction pills? Im curious if those actually work.

i guess the only proof you could really have is talking to someone who had actually used them www.brilliantdreams.com

      They're probably just B6 pills.

There are other sleeping drugs that will not affect your dreams. DXM is a hallucinogen so you should have even wilder dreams, I've noticed that whenever I've taken any. That's my favourite part of a cold or flu, taking Nyquil before bed and having some crazy dreams.

      B6 = Vitamin B6, or "Pyridoxine"

They are supposed to induce better lucid dreaming, REM time and dream recall, though experiments show no evidence of that... there is a thread about it in DV, but i couldnt find it.

      From Wikipedia:

"The B vitamins are eight water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cell metabolism. Historically, the B vitamins were once thought to be a single vitamin, referred to as Vitamin B (much like how people refer to Vitamin C or Vitamin D). Later research showed that they are chemically distinct vitamins that often coexist in the same foods. Supplements containing all eight B vitamins are generally referred to as a vitamin B complex. Individual B vitamin supplements are referred to by the specific name of each vitamin (e.g. B1, B2, B3)."

With the amount that lucid levels and vividness/recall differ from night to night, I wouldn't trust ANY personnel account. Even my own. The studies say that if anything, it should be worse.

This however proves that lucids can happen with sleeping pills. Its just a small effect if anything.

i have had lucid dreams with sleeping pills of many sorts (tylenol PM, benzodiazepines, rohypnol, flu medicines). My guess is they do not influence so much on lucidity, but they may influence on duration of REM cycles.

The main influence on lucidity, i have no doubt, is daily meditation and reality checks.

I took 50mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride (a moderately strengthen sleeping pill) and had two lucid dreams last night; both were very stable, but I had poor control over them.

      That's Benadryl, right?

I had an interesting experience on Benadryl before I LD'ed, where I took it early in the morning to alleviate indoor allergy symptoms, went back to bed, and had lots of SP vibrations and short dreams with false awakenings. So I could see it being used as an LD drug.

I need to feel SP vibrations in order to WILD, but I'd much rather feel them naturally and have very few WILDs than abuse Benadryl. I'm a decent DILDer anyway...I can do without WILDs.

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.

I would assume Benadryl (name brand) is far less than 50mg. If it's got other stuff in it then I wouldn't take more than the recommended dosage. Remember diphenhydramine is habit forming, so use it sparingly.

I dream fine with benzo's but to be honest I think it just depends on so many other factors because sometimes I will remember great dreams and other times I will not remember anything. But remember we always dream.
