Thread: RC's In Private Only?

LMAO! I'm still trying to get in the habit of RC's. But once I start to get in the habit, I'm sure I'm going to have some explaining to do for people who catch me suddenly plugging my nose, or trying to poke my finger through my hand, or simply asking myself "Am I dreaming?". Ha ha!

I'm just plugging my nose, I'll say I have a cold or something haha

I'm pretty subtle with my reality checks. I mean, not too many people question me plugging my nose for about a second. Or touching my palm with my finger. Or looking at my hand. Etc. And then the rest of it is mental, so . . . yeah, I do RC's everywhere.

I never understand how people notice you doing reality checks so much. I mean, most are really really subtle.

They are pretty subtle unless you're staring at your hand and trying to poke a finger through it.

I just plug my nose for a second and try to breathe. If somebody asks me what I'm doing I say, "Making sure I'm not dreaming." Because everybody already thinks I'm partly crazy. So it can't hurt.

I told my husbands about RCs. He thinks I'm crazy but remains supportive

My three favorite's are the mirror, watch, and nose. Out of the three, the nose is the most obvious, but even then most don't notice. If they do...well, I tell them exactly what I'm doing. My parents think I'm absolutely insane, but my friends believe me. One of them even had an LD, I believe.

And if you're only doing RCs in private, you are approaching it completely wrong. If you feel the urge to RC, then RC.

I dont like people thinking im crazy so the RCs that i choose are subtle. The swallowing and trying to breathe through your nose one is next to invisible. and plugging your nose isnt that noticable either.

If someone makes fun of you for doing an RC you can always kill them in your next LD(jk). Anyway I don't really do RCs that often but Im gonna start doing them more close to bed. I really don't think people care if you're plugging your nose or poking your hand. Just say something about an itch and they'll forget about it in a minute. That's easier than saying something about LDs and then regretting it later.

Why would you be doing them in private? They are really subtle. Nose RC say you have a cold, thumb RC just say you were flicking off dust or something. Unless you made it really obvious, I don't see why anyone would question you....

I like when people think I'm crazy, but I never say why I pinch my nose every now and then, nobody seems to care anyway.

My friend used to do RC's in such private (locked his door) and his parents thought he was masterbating!!

my friend does RC'S but i tend to no the difference between reality and the dream world

I love the whole idea of performing reality checks, mainly because it's nearly impossible to achieve lucidity without them. I think everyone who knows me in real life knows about my fascination with lucid dreaming and also reality checks. In fact, a few of my closest friends even remind me to perform them! I'm just waiting for the moment when a dream character actually reminds me to do a reality check!

Ya my girlfriend feels the same way. Only every time she sees me doing one, she insists on going, "YOUR NOT DREAMING!" LOL so im sure that at least once in my dream i have done a RC and she has shouted at me, then ive been like ok guess im not dreaming....

Hi, I'm quite new here but have experienced lucid dreaming before. The only type of reality check I do is that I call out (in my mind) for a certain person who will then appear to me (a person that I will never see in reality). So if they turn up then I am dreaming. I am not sure if the nose plug check would work with me. I haven't had much lucid dreams recently and in some dreams I have experienced chocking or difficulty breathing within the dream when actually nothing was wrong with me, so wouldn't plugging your nose even in a dream cause the same sensation of not being able to breathe?

well i do the nose plug RC. if anyone asks i just say im trying to pop my ears or something like that.

does it really matter to hide it? if anyone cares tell them about lucid dreaming or just say have you ever had a lucid dream and go from there. when people find out most of them think its cool

Personally i the nose plug, count my fingers, and finger through hand constantly. I have never had one person ask what im doing. As long as your not making a big deal about it people shouldnt give it a second thought. If your looking around trying to make sure no one is watching you and then sticking your hand straight out in front of your face and using a very straightened finger to poke at it several times.... ya you probably are gonna get noticed.

I guess I'm always RC'ing wherever I'm at. This helps me to recognize if I'm dreaming because I have already 'RC'd there', get the idea?
Last week at work, whenever possible I was trying to open doors with a hand motion, the result was that in my next LD I was standing in front of the same doors and I opened them with a hand motion.
What a rush!
