      HI phenomenon? What is this?

A while back, I had posted a description of an HI phenomenon along with some other related topics trying to get an explaination of what this is. Here's a cut/paste of the relevant section:

      ******************************
The other interesting effect I sometimes get in this state is hard to describe. Essentially, I get light
specs which collect above and between my eyes. When they collect into a bright orange ball they "fire"
toward me and disappear. This repeats in a time periodic fashion - about once every 6 seconds or so.
After 5-8 orange balls of light fired toward me, it usually disappears.

The only thing I ever found which seemed to describe this phenomenon is the notion of the pinneal and
pituitary glands sympothetically charging up and down (electrochemically) during certain mental states.

I see this during deep meditation on occasion. I also see this before falling asleep in the middle of the
      night from time to time.

      ********************************

I have never heard anyone describe anything quite like this. I know various people believe in a "third eye" and certainly staring at a point above and between your eyes with eyes closed can lead to an effect of "seeing" a ball of white light. But what I describe above is much more than that.

What the hell is this exactly?

      Hey DrTech,

You know, I experienced something very similar (actually more than once). Except in my case it was not light specs becoming a ball then shooting toward me, but rather a formation of a deep purple cloud which starts on one side then crosses my field of 'vision'.

What I found so interesting about this was that no matter how hard I would try, the cloud would always form into the exact same shape and cross my visual plane in the same manner at same speed! It's as if my mind had this cookie-cutter for making this particular cloud.

The thing you describe about the frequency of the event (formation, then fire) also happened to me - I could pretty much predict when the cloud would form, and when it would move.

What the hell is this exactly?
Heh, got me. I have two theories:

      1) Having observed one particular event, our mind "records it". In our state of relaxation (or for whatever reason), our mind plays back this clip over and over. Maybe as a way of hypnosis or redundancy which would eventually lead to loss of consciousness (sleep).

      2) Our mind is actually interpreting something that is going on in our brain and translating it into a visual signal. Not sure how to explain. Like, for instance, blood rushing through certain parts of our ocular system. The portion of our brain that takes in outside information and translates it into color and light (what we see), is tapping into some other portion of our physical system and translating the signal.

Either way, it's pretty neat when it happens because it can be so real and convincing sometimes - so full of detail.

SAME EXACT thing i have. Its a purplish cloud that goes in a random path around my eye, usually just running across.

I figured what each person saw would would be unique to each individual! Hmm... now I feel like I MUST find it's meaning

Not to be funny, but a very similar thing happens to me to!

A dark cloudish entity, that approaches me at a diagonal angle but then passes me. And this happens repeatedly.

I agree that it's probably a manifestation of some chemical process in the brain. That's why i raised my point that I once read that in deep meditation one can get their pinneal and pituitary glands to "resonate" in sync, and that's perhaps what it is.

I would also speculate that there are some interesting spiritual interpretations - though I don't have any Tibetan Monks at my disposal to bounce this off of.

It's very euphoric, I guess I'm lucky to be able to experience this.
