What would you have done differently?

Remember when you first started this whole "lucid journey"? Remember those halcyon days, when your mind was fresh and you wore the label of "noob" proudly? Well, maybe not, but still... EVERYBODY started somewhere.

If you could go back to the beginning, knowing what you know now, would you have done anything differently? Or, if you wouldn't have changed anything, what do you feel contributed the most to your success and enjoyment of LDing and dreaming thus far?

Personally, if I could have changed things, I would have both stuck to one method for a longer period of time, rather than switching constantly, and I would have kept a more positive attitude. Something that's contributed to my success and enjoyment of the journey: I've met a LOT of very awesome people, with really good ideas, and I've enhanced my life in many ways beyond LDing itself.

I waited about a month to join here, I wish I woula joined right away.

I'm happy I stayed motivated and kept trying over the month before my first LD, otherwise I would have given up and never learned this awesome skill.

hmm...well, I would say not giving up so much on WILD when I was first starting out. Also to what go on the subject QwinsepiaSquared said, I wished I never left dream views. I used to have an old account back in 2004 but I stopped checking dreams views because I pretty much have the LD down.

Besides that I think I would keep everything the same.

I'm happy with what I did. I lurked around for half a year before I joined that way I could contribute a little bit. If I could have changed anything I would have hoped I could have found out about it earlier. I could have learned to wild a lot earlier in the game and stuck with it. Other than that I'm just glad I found this place.

If I could go back to the beginning (seven years ago in the good old year of 2001) I woudn't have bothered all the times when I tried MILD, WILD, and WBTB's. All three of those methods failed for me then, and they still do now.
I wish I would have known about reality checks back then because they have really helped me out. Since I have started performing reality checks at appropriate times, I have had TWO lucid dreams in the past two and a half months!

      Do a reality check.

i would have NEVER taken a break. Sometimes breaks are good, but if they are too long, you just lose the ability

i didnt know that at the time though, leading to a loooooooooooong dryspell and alot of work to get up to par.

I knew about lucid dreaming for a year before joining here. I wish I had done it right off the bat. I also wish that I had been less tempted by sex during the early ones when I didn't have the skill to stay in them.

I started having these amazing vivid occasional lucid dreams when I was 5 or 6 so I probably would've tried to have them more often

Everything makes sense once you stop thinking about it

I want to do everything exactly like I did back then, I had a lucid every 2-3 days. Actually I think it was just keeping a dream journal, I rarely used a reality check in a dream to become lucid.

      ^Probably

When I started lucid dreaming I was a young child and I used it only to awaken myself from nightmares. I developed a technique of closing my eyes in dreams and when I opened them I would open my real eyes and wake up. I wish I had realized I could just change the dream because now waking up from closing my eyes is a deep seeded reaction that I have never been able to get rid of completely.

Yes, I totally agree! It's hard for me to continue training myself to lucid dream whenever a new 'more exciting' interest comes to my attention. I've made such a huge progress these past few months that I don't want anything to distract me. Unfortunately my birdwatching season is coming sooner than expected so I don't think I'll be around Dreamviews for much longer But I know I'll be back, lmao!

Well I have wasted about 14 years of lucid dreaming, not knowing anywhere near what I know now - I never used it for anything worthwhile!

If only I knew there were no limitations back then, my mind was pretty closed and didn't realise what I could achieve! So if I could go back I would have tried to do a lot more, and also created Dv myself so I could be KING Mwahahahahaha!!

Agreed. Summer was my chance to dream, instead I screwed up my sleep schedule and concentrated more on videogames. Only now am I getting my groove back. DX
