      What is Old Hag?

I think Old Hag has something to do with the WILD technique, correct?

      Well, what exactly is it?

Old Hag is just a name people gave to sleep paralysis when they couldn't figure out what it really was.

And sleep paralysis is what you feel while WILDing.

I believe old hag is specifically the hallucinations associated with SP.

I had that happen to me last night I was laying down, waiting to fall asleep and I think I did. Everything seemed different though nothing seemed like it. I heard a creak in my room, that sounded like somebody walking. I was like then, the person walks over to my bed and stood over me it felt like, I was facing the wall, my eyes were open too. It sounded like they said something, then my eyes shut and I went into a lucid dream.

Ya, last night i was laying in bed, and closed my eyes, tried to do the technique where you start seeing shapes, then faces, then scenes. I didn't really see anything except maybe some flashes. Then I started to feel my feet tingling then my hands.

A couple seconds later, I felt like my head was being turned by someone else, like I could feel the fingers on my head. Then it started to feel like i was losing the sense in my body, it was like my body was disappearing.

I knew this was supposed to happen and I also started to feel like I was falling. But I got out of it by moving. Then I just went to sleep.

I'm going to try it again tonight. Was this all supposed to happen? If I had stayed with it do you guys think I would have gone lucid?

Old hag is what they called the SP phenomenon in the old days. It's the evil presence and other hallucinations combined while not being able to move. They were witches and monsters in the past. Now the role is taken by aliens and obductions . I think that there is also the version of the evil presence called the succubus?

Only once have I seen any scary images. It was only a fleeting glimpse of a dark figure I guess wearing a long coat and dark hat. It genuinely creeped me out. I woke up a little more and realized it was just my open closet, which was darker inside than the rest of the room. lol

Everything everyone is describing here is simply hallucinations associated with WILD.

I wouldn't describe the "Old Hag" as a presence. During WILD I simply feel like there's a humongous pressure on my body like I'm 1000 feet down in the ocean. This pressure creates a ringing in my ear and combined with any hallucination I might "hear", perhaps I would be tricked into thinking someone was there. It mostly feels like a rollercoaster ride to me.

Just remember it's all in your head and nothing is really happening. Pretend you're on an acid trip.

You're brain was already transitioning from alpha waves to theta waves. You're body gets "paralyzed" in order to prevent you from accidentally waking up. It's an evolutionary trick.

Many people experience thinking they're still awake when in fact they've basically fallen asleep already.

You might also have sleep apnea, an uncommon sleeping disorder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea

I feel MUCH better after reading this thread... I had never really looked into anything about this before and afraid I was the only one. Anyways... I've SP'd since I was about three but never had the "Old Hag" feeling until college. I've also noticed that since then my SP's have become more frequent (at least once a week compared to once every few months before).

Anyways... here's the story of my first Old Hag when I was 18 and a freshman in college... tell me if any of you have had anything similar:

I had been up late the night before and late that night. I went to bed at 4:12 AM. I was alone that night as with most nights because my roommate at the time spent most nights with his girlfriend.

A short while after what I think was sleep I went into SP. I went through the normal steps I had taught myself to get out of SP and then I started to feel funny. My position on the bed was this: I was laying on my stomach near the edge of the bed with my left arm hanging off the side. My face was pointed so that when my eyes were opened I was looking directly at the foot of my roommate's bed.

I then began to feel what at first seemed like a tingle in my fingertips then I realized FELT like the top of a person's head covered in medium length hair slowly rising up. Then at the foot of my roommate's empty bed I saw a bloody pig head mouth and eyes wide open staring back at me. Then from the corner of my eye I saw what looked like a hooded figure almost eight feet tall. I couldn't see any hands feet or face, just this big black cloak thing. Then I heard a voice that was really low and almost inaudible say either "Get out alive" or "You won't get out alive." I'm not totally sure cause like I said it was hard to hear, but the voice was really low and felt like it was rattling inside my head. Thoroughly freaked out by this time and having lost focus on my SP escape method I put all my focus into that and tried to block out the other stuff.

Then I broke out of SP, jumped up and turned the lights on but it still felt like someone was there that I couldn't see. So, I threw a shirt and some shoes on, grabbed my phone keys and wallet and got the hell outta there. I didn't sleep there for the rest of the week and didn't stay in the room more than 2 minutes with the door closed.

Please don't think I'm crazy...haha.. I did until I read this post and every one else that I've talked to about it thinks I am.

Since then I've seen the figure who I've since nicknamed Dmitri a handful of times under much more pleasant conditions although it still freaks me out. Also, its only spoken once since then and never moves, only seems to just stand there and stare. Also it has occurred while I was both alone and with my girlfriend sleeping beside me.

      You are crazy...

haha just playing. But, yea, I've had some creepy dreams before that occured while waking from bed. Those are the ones that are hard to catch because you are in a place you know of. Some nightmares are so child like. And so fake looking in retro spect and if you catch yourself in it. But, some are almost like a 100% real life movie.

One of the weirdest things, hands down, happened to me when I was on tour with my band a few months ago. Three of us were driving on the coastal highway from California to Oregon, in the middle of the night, through a very long stretch of inhabited forest, when someone thought it would be a good idea to talk about ghost stories and other spooky stuff. I told the driver a story about a time when I was visiting my mom's house a few years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night to open the window a bit since the it was kind of stuffy in the room, and the second I put got back into bed and put my head on the pillow I was unable to move or speak. All of a sudden a very ugly, bearded face materialized in front of mine and started flashing, almost like a strobe, for what felt like ages. When it stopped I was able to move again and was pretty shaken up since I felt like by opening up the window I had let something into the room.

Anyways, as I was the driver this story, his eyes got very wide and he told me that this man was called the "shadow-man" and there is also a female night visitor called "The Night Hag" and that he had had several sleep-paralysis/visitation experiences throughout the course of his life.

A few hours later the three of us find a motel and we're all pretty happy to be going to sleep (I mention this just to clarify that I was relaxed and calm before going to sleep and not shaken up by the supernatural stories we had been sharing on the drive). During the night I have a dream. I am walking around in a vast, empty parking lot towards a gas station. From far away I see a piece of paper that seems to be illuminated, as if it's drawing attention to itself. I walk closer and pick it up only to find that it's a charcoal portrait of the bearded-man I had been talking about earlier. At first I was a bit scared, but then I realized that I was dreaming and that nothing could happen to me. The next thing I know a woman's voice addresses me and says "Well you think you're dreaming, but you're actually asleep in a motel room and I'm going to take you there right now!" I wake up from the dream, unable to move, and I feel like someone is hovering over me. I then feel a pair of knees press into my back (I sleep on my stomach) as if a person is sitting on me.

I won't talk about what happened when I started making sounds like I was being violated (not to mention the embarassment that ensued the next day towards the two people I was sleeping in the room with).

Hopefully I don't have another experience after writing this tonight.

      Renewed, it fought
As if it had a cause to live for
      Denied, it learned
As if it had sooner been destroyed
Providing, deciding, it was soon there
Squared to it, faced to it, it was not there

Maybe a tip for those who have horrible SP, before sleeping maybe create protecting shield.

yes i had this happen before, when i was like 9 years old, and its alot of the reason im somewhat apprehensive of trying WILDS as i do not want to feel it again.

Lying there and i felt like i was choking, i couldnt breathe and i felt like there was a ton of bricks on my chest, while i could hear my heartbeat in my head, so loud it was like someone was drumming 2 feet from me.

I honestly dont know how you guys can feel that and somehow remain calm through it, its terrifying to me.

That and the time i was lying down and heard this really low pitch laughing, and it sounded like it was RIGHT behind my head, yeah imagine how bad that freaked me out.
