Y so touchy about lucid dreaming?

Hi.....just refering to the previous post about the sensitivity of others criticizing lucid dreaming being BS. Y is it a touchy subject? I think it's because people in general, lucid dreamers and non are having a poor outlook at dreaming in general.....The "Stop building castles in the air?" complex that most of us have which is also largely Y lucid dreaming is difficult to master. When we try to induce lucid dreams...there is a voice at the back of our minds telling us that what we are doing is not normal and has low prospects because there is no monetary value in it other than self satisfaction and fulfillment or spiritualism..etc and can't secure U a position in life.....so when somebody comes along and say it's BS....we get touchy and pissed because we already had that mindset earlier....

I don't get annoyed if someone don't understand it.

But it someone tries to tell you they don't exist, they are calling you a liar. No matter what the subject is, if someone calls you a liar, you will get annoyed

I completely disagree with everything you said.

I think it's more to do with being open minded to more posibilities than the norm, but that's just my point of view...

A lot of people think that dream's are actually your subconscious trying to tell you something, or perhaps even a bit of Divinal (is that even a word, perhaps Divine) intervention from time to time. The idea that people would try to go against that angers some people.

Others just think it's like a cult, and I don't really blame them. It just bothers a lot of people because it's a really interesting phenomenon in general.

Who says it has no real life applications? Not only can it help you conquer your fears, but it can help you imprve on skills you lack (public speaking, etc.). Not only that, but it is a great stress buster. For artists and writiers, it helps to inspire. And as I've said before, what other hobby can you perform while asleep?

And then there are some, as Hockey noted, that believe dreams carry a message. The truth is, lucid dreamers must remember most of their dreams in order to lucid dream in the first place! Lucid dreamers, compared with dream purists, remember more dreams and more details. Consequently, they will catch onto whatever "deeper meaning" the dreams could posses faster and more often than others. Not to mention, no lucid dreamer is lucid during all REM periods (and even when lucid, they often don't exersize full control), so whatever natural mind function normal dreaming must serve is still granted.

Put that in their pipes, and make 'em shut up.

Man, I have a friend who's crazy conservative religiously, I told him about lucid dreaming and how I want to...he says he has them all the time naturally and loves it. He even gave me some advice on what to eat before bed to have certain dreams.

Actually, I've never even considered that there should be a problem with it.

I concur as well. That's completely wrong. I get touchy about it, because I consider Lucid Dreaming to be one of the most important things in my life. If I bring it up to somebody with the intent to share something personal with a friend.
And they start talking shit, or making fun of it. It makes me feel like crap. Thats Why I learned to keep it to myself, for the most part.

And that's what makes having a Lucid Dreaming forum so great.

People that use arguments like that (many people I know do...) generally have tried to LD at one time and have failed and are not patient enough to make it work.

I think that my parents would personally disagree with a lot of what they found on this forum mainly because of all the lucid sex references. Some people really do go overboard. Then again, there are also all the cult and new age vibes that some sites have. That kinda worried me until I found this site.

One other thing is that most people have a misconception of what an LD is; several of them probablly confuse them with OBE's, which definatly have occult conotations in my mind.

On the whole thing about dreams being a message from God; I figure that if God want's to influence my dreams, my pitifull attempts at dream manipulation won't pose any barrier.
