Thread: 24 Hour Lucid

That would be the holy grail of lucid dreaming. I heard it from a friend of a friend that it is possible, but i think that you need drugs or something. If not, anyone who knows anything about having a 24 hour+ lucid post here. I think that would be awesome.

You don't need to be physically asleep for 24 hours in order to have a lucid dream which seems to last that long.

yeah your perception of time can be altered in dreams without having to take drugs or sleep a whole day away. That would mess up your sleep schedual. and you would probably be very thirsty. Sleeping for 24 hours would throw you off for awhile

Yea i know it would be a one time thing but it would be a great thing to remember

A 24hr+ lucid dream? It would be awesome but my guess is that U would not be able to tell the difference from waking reality anymore....simply put..U would have fried Ur brain....

Theres a little segment about slowing down time, I've had a dream that seemed to last for a day, when really after I woke up from it 19 minutes had passed (It was a WILD)




The description given there helped me.

When dilating time, your mind basically omits, or auto-repeats tedious sequences (walking, running... Anything repetitive). So instead of taking an entire dream to climb Everest, it suddenly takes a few minutes!

Unless you are talking about staying in REM for 24 of the rest of the world's measurement of hours. That might pose a few problems, what with circadian rhythms and eating and micturition and such.

I disagree with Abra. The brain is very powerful, and when you are dreaming all it has to do is dream so I think it could easily dilate time. Some people have had a lucid dream that lasted a week, and I think somebody had one that lasted 100 years.

I guess you will just have to try it.

I was saying that yes, it would be easy to dilate time in a dream. My reasoning was that the brain would accomplish this by auto-repeating (giving the impression of repeating) repetitive sequences, so that the dreamer doesn't waste too much real time lost in a cornfield or something (while it may take only a few minutes of real time for the dream scenario of escaping the field to complete, the dreamer will perceive it as hours).

What I'm trying to say is, in a dream, we aren't restrained by our body's physical speed. So in a dream, we can walk across the room very fast relative to waking time, but it will seem just as slow as waking life while in the dream. Because we don't have to react based upon real life movements, our brains will process these at a much faster rate. This would dilate time.

For the record, my longest lucid dream lasted from sunrise to sunset. Though there are longer ones (content-wise), that one stands out for its mimicry of rotational time.

Interesting resource. I like the part about reward and punishment for the induction of lucid dreaming. A little bit of operant conditioning there, eh. ^_^
