From what I understand of the MILD technique, it is alot like Auto-Suggestion, except that you do it after you wake up in the middle of the night, and as your going back to sleep. Also, imagine yourself back in your dream as you fall asleep. Remember how your dream went, when your in that state of mind, make yourself recognize a dream sign in your dream. Even if its one that wasn't there before.
If you keep relaxed, you should be able to fall asleep while thinking about your dream, and hopefully pick up your dream where you left off, and see the dream sign and remember to do a reality check.
