      Easiest method?

Which method do you think is the easiest with the highest probability of going lucid?

For me DILD's are the easiest.

Make sure you have good dream recall (write down your dreams in a dream diary/journal), be aware of your surroundings in real life so that you will take this habit into your dreams (so you will notice when something is strange easily), and find some good reality checks and dream signs.

But that's just for me. I don't really have much experience with the other techniques, though I did have a WILD once or twice. Those are difficult, but when you succeed, you really got something.

      It's probably different for everyone.

In some ways, for some people and at sometimes WILD may be easier than DILD.

Practicing dream recall will help, so will meditation and mind control. I also think that "art work" can help. Find a hobby like painting, ceramics, music or something along those lines. They seem to involve similar disciplines.

I'm an artist > metalsmith > bladesmith by profession and play music on the side. It all comes fairly natural for me.

I would have to say DILDs.

      DILD. Second to those: MILD.

If you want a high probability of return in a relatively short amount if time, I'd suggest using WBTB (wake back to bed) method. That's one where you set an alarm to wake up about 2 hours earlier than normal, get up for a while, then go back to bed. I'm not sure this counts as "easy" though :-).

After six hours of sleep, you start dreaming much sooner (and your dreams last longer). So it's easier to hold on to the intention to become lucid.

WBTB isn't a complete technique though; you need a way to help you remember that you're dreaming. WBTB was first done by LaBerge who used something he calls MILD. It also works well with WILD. But neither of those are particularly easy. MILD is a detailed technique and it's difficult to get a coherent description of without buying LaBerge's books. WILD is not easy full stop.

What Iamerik described is a common DILD technique which would work with WBTB.

[This is based on the sleep cycle; you cycle between non-REM sleep including deep sleep and REM sleep (dreaming). Each cycle is about 90-110 minutes. With each cycle, the amount of non-REM sleep decreases and REM increases. So you have your longest dreams just before you get up.

This is fairly well documented (it's easy to test with EEG machines). Though when I Googled I was surprised to find that the sleep cycle is not fully understood.]

There's another very easy method with a high probability of success that no-ones mentioned yet. "Beginners luck" .

If you've recently discovered lucid dreaming and you're getting interested in it, sometimes you can become lucid in your dream without following any method at all.

Perhaps that's not very helpful, because it depends so much on your circumstances. I'm a bit of a pedant though, and as an answer I thought it fit the exact wording of your question in a rather interesting way .

Aw, did you have to quote the whole thing again? Please, somebody, make it stop!

My guess was it's a reply to my "beginners luck method", and Gestalt got so inspired he started singing. Call me self-centred.

The DEILD method works very well. I would recommend giving it a try.
