      What Happened?? Concerning SP

      Hello All,

I attempted to induce sleep paralysis before going to be last night just because I've never consciously experienced it and I figured I'd better try. Lucid dreams or not, I want the practice so I can better attempt my WILDs.

So last night I tried the reverse blinking technique, which make me incredibly tired within five minutes of starting. After that, I began counting. I'd say, not five minutes later my fingers began to twitch. About a minute after that, I began to hear this constant buzzing sound. I had music playing lightly, so I can't be sure, but I'm pretty positive the buzzing was an auditory hallucination. About a minute after the buzzing, my body began to vibrate. It continued like that for about 30 seconds and then it just sort of...dropped off. I tried to remain still after that, then I did the nose reality check (just in case). I wasn't dreaming, but my body didn't feel paralyzed. About five minutes later, I gave up, rolled over and went to bed.

What's the deal? Was that SP or what? Did I do something to ruin it? Should I have stayed still for longer?

      Oops

Oh, and sorry...this might not be the appropriate forum. Then again, it does concern lucid dreaming indirectly.

Well, it Could be possible you were entering Sp but was experiencing something that you don't usually experience While Entering Sp and shook yourself out of it.

Well, to me (which i've never conciously induced SP, but I have had it) it didn't sound like you weren't in SP but you were very close. I've never felt vibrations, all i've ever felt was sensations such as falling and what not.

I think you just described SP perfectly. If it wasn't the beginning of the night, you may have passed directly into a LD. Everyone is a little different, and everytime you induce this it can be a little different. What you described is almost exactly what happens to me the majority of times when I WILD. I use reverse blinking also, and feel crazy vibrations and hear the buzzing.

If you can get to this stage, then you are almost there. You just need a few more little tricks to nudge your brain into a dream.

Sometimes the buzzing/ vibrating will just abruptly stop for me also. You did the right thing by immediately doing a RC. I have been fooled so many times when it stops abruptly. Sometimes it will stop, and I will know I am totally awake. I will roll over to sleep, and suddenly roll right out of my body. Or I will get up to get a drink, and halfway to the kitchen I will wake up for real back in my bed. So damn tricky.

I think the best thing to do is experiment with this transition stage as much as you can. Practice with it so you get as familiar as possible. Don't get discouraged if it does not turn into a LD every time. Its kind of cool on its own, and mastering that transition between awake and asleep is what most techniques are all about.

Thanks for the advice! I plan to experiment a lot. I'll have to try it later in the night so it might actually turn into an LD!
