what a weird way to become lucid

You know when you're half asleep and you can sort of see a dream forming but you know that you're not really fully asleep and any movement will just wake you up? (I guess it's HI... I'm not entirely sure what that is though) Okay, so that was happening, and I was involuntarily imagining that I was reading a book. Like I was only imagining it, it wasn't a dream, but my mind was just going off on its own. I think it was a history book or something that I was reading... some kind of text book, but it was strange because usually when I LD I can't read because the words get all messed up. However, this time I was reading everything perfectly. Anyway, I knew that I wasn't fully dreaming, but I would be soon, so I imagined myself writing the words "reality check" at the bottom of the next page. I expected that by the time I had gotten that far that I would be dreaming. So I did, then I just kind of let my mind go, allowing myself to fall alseep completely and enter the dream, still reading the book. Sure enough, I got to the end of the next page and read the words "Reality Check". It was a strange way to become lucid; I'm not sure exactly how it happened, it just... did. I dont know what compelled me to actually come to my senses when I was half-asleep and what made me think to write "RC" at a point in my imaginings that I knew would soon become a dream.

You know what else makes me mad, no matter what I tried in that lucid dream, I couldn't do it. I couldn't create a portal or make it daytime or fly or even get the lights to work. I never can really (I can sort of fly) what's wrong with me!!? (okay... off subject. sorry)

Strange that the note stayed long enough for you to read it later. I wonder if it is somehow related to not being able to have any dream control. Maybe you kept a certain logical part of your brain active by reading and writing. Maybe that logic center would not allow any nonsense in the dream.

"No nonsense! I'm trying to read!"

Perhaps your level of awareness of was too high. You realized you were imagining before your awareness had totally slipped away. Perhaps you were still carrying with you hindering assumptions from your waking state of mind. Questions like "Am I dreaming yet?" may prevent you from believing you're dreaming, thus preventing you from fully controlling your environment.

Maybe if you wrote something like "This is a Lucid Dream" at the bottom of the page you would not question your ability to control it. Confidence has usually been key for me in maintaining lucidity.

That was a pretty cool way to become lucid, even if the dream was a little frustrating for you.

I think it's just practice learning to control things like light and stuff; for me it takes a long time to develop a new skill, and it still won't always work consistently. Just keep trying!
