      The Inbetween

Once, while drifting off to sleep, I was given the option to go directly into my dream, or to take the side-road.

Of course, I was in the mood for an adventure...

Though I was slowly working my way into the unconscious, I was aware and in control - I would describe the feeling as a 'casual' lucid dream. I knew I was dreaming, but I really just wanted to check out the scenery.

As I entered, I passed through a stone archway into a dimly lit house. All around me were other dreamers, and at once I knew it to be the place inbetween dreams. It was thick with a feeling of urgence and destination, and everyone was either coming or going; some came from places I had never heard of. A young man brushed past me on his way to the archway I had come through. "Have you ever been there before?" I asked him.

      "No."

He seemed to be in a hurry to experience what was on the other side, so I shouted him a quick warning: "Just stay off the roads, they have things called 'cars' out there."

There were so many options within that place, and so many ways to help design your own dreams. Destinations set aside for newcomers that were easy to cope with and fun-at-heart. Others were more severe, and were reserved for well-weathered dreamers and stoics.

But, being my first time, I was reluctant to leave the place. I wandered for a while, and deep in the back I found crowded rooms with people hunched over glowing pools of light.

They were the dream engineers, and their minds piped into the thoughts of the people who came and went through that place.

And so I sat and watched them work, helping people overcome nightmares and learn life-lessons through dreams. I was amazed at how hard they worked for others, dreaming to help others dream.

In so many ways, this place reminded me of that dream when I first came here. I also thought it would be the best place to ask: Has anyone else gone there?

      Thanks for your time,
      -Rr
