      Lucid dreaming sim - revived!

Oh man, I started this so very long ago then forgot about it. To make a long story short, it got put to the side because I had no artist and Joe (who was my main artist victim) had to much of a life to dabble around making flash games =O I've come back to it and said "screw the art, i'm gonna make it to completion no matter if it looks pretty or not"

I've been working away steadily at it for a little while. It's pretty sexy already even though it's only 10-25% complete. Here is a linky. I've only just started the cloud city and I seriously need to re-hash stuff like the flying animation but overall I'm quite pleased. I'll update that link as I add stuff to it so stay tuned =)

Lastly, I need help picking dream guides. I figured it would be awesome and win to have some of our very own DGs from DV star in it. Of course, most of the people I'm thinking of are retired or mods such as clarity, moonbeam and exo. Ignoring the current DG list, who would be a good DG and what position would they fill?(wherever you see ???, thats what I need to fill)

      The positions are:

Guides of Freedom, courage, power, knowledge, self, creation, destruction and alteration.

I think i'm gonna make seeker the guide of knowledge (wise old man, FTW =P) and joe might serve well as guide of creation due to his artsyness. What do you think?

      Comments/criticisms please!

I have to give you on your efforts, at least your pushing forward. The artwork needs help, the characters are not so great and could use some major polishing or ///re-do. I think there's way to much text (and I have no complaints with reading) but Lucids are triggered by visuals cues. It started great with the lamp but then it just seem to get stuck in options. Keep at it though, at least you've actually completed something. Perhaps video training might be better than FLASH, just a thought!

      cheers!

haha fun idea, looks good. I especially love the way everything flickers when *you* realize you are dreaming. It really does look like that! btw is there a certain term/biological explanation for that?

Wow this sounds like an interesting flash game! If I had any skill in making flash games I'd help you, but I only know how to write. If you need ideas and such just PM me and I'd be glad to give you some ideas, suggestions, and constructive criticism. Oh, when I saw the lucid crossroads I just got a chill go through my spine about how awesome it would be for you to put in something about dreamsharing and such. =P

alright, should be fixed now =P

I made a silly mistake on the preloader. Refreshing was the only way to get through.

Hmm.. that has potential. I'll try to fit it in if I find a space.

Any idea for what sort of scenario you could introduce that with?

Hmm, all I had to do was refresh. It ended for me after I got all the skills to Level 2 and I met with that God looking guy. I can't wait to see what's in that mine place, =p.

I think this would be great to show people who have never heard of the lucid dream concept before.

I wish that lucid dreams could be used for the basis of a final fantasy like game or something, it would work so perfectly >.<

But don't be afraid of doing the whole thing in david firth type drawings, thats what makes it strange and dreamy.

Well, at some point you could introduce a villain that's a dreamstalker (aka a person who goes into people's dreams to absorb their energy and create nightmares instead). And then the hero needs to go into other people's dreams to confront and destroy them. That's just a suggestion though. =P I have other ideas you might like to hear in the form a PM or maybe flashchat.

BLLAARRRGGG! You just spoiled the plot dude! =P

But anyway, sounds like a plan but I'm not sure the whole "Jesus christ the devil (but not really) is attack the dreamworld! I might fight him because you know, random teenagers are strong enough to take down metaphysical masters of evil!" If you want some really good suggestions, meet me in chat. I'll most likely be in there.

This is such a cool concept - and not just for dreaming either. How in the world do you accomplish something like that?! Do you need to use flash, or are there any cheap/free alternatives?

I think you should avoid things like dream stalkers. Not everyone has dream stalkers. I have avoided reading anything about them because I know that as soon as I read about them and what they are, they will start to show up in my dreams. That may harm dreaming for a lot of people, especially if they are at all scary. If this is more of a simulation, I'd say don't do that. If it's more of a game, in which case you'd need some villains to fight, I'd say go for it. I think it would be much more interesting so make the villain the dreamer's subconscious, though. Especially because there could be clues about the villain's identity throughout the game.

Theres free alternatives but they're really only good for making stick movies. I made this in Flash. I have ALOT of experience in the program even though I don't often finish projects (mainly due to the reason this got put to the side, art)

I'm gonna make it "populace friendly" meaning that I'm gonna avoid the touchy subjects or, at least, represent them in a way that would seem sane and that the average player wouldn't think twice about. For example, if you introduce a nameless, faceless villain early then only tell people what he is quite a bit later, they accept the explanation without thinking about it too much. So, you can slip in concepts that they would have otherwise outright rejected by slipping it in under the guise of gaming =O
