Also make sure to conduct a series of reality checks immediately when you wake up from a lucid dream, because you could just be in a False Awakening and actually realize it is a dream! This happened to me the other day, and you wouldn't believe how absolutely realistic those false awakenings can be. Don't miss out on a lucid!
Spinning doesn't work for a lot of people, or so I've read. It doesn't work for me, it does work for some people. If it doesn't work for you, just keep rubbing your hands (since it does) and experimenting with different methods, like viewing your surroundings, speaking, looking down at your own body, saying "Clarity!" to command the dream world to become more clear, etc.
Also, as you get more experience LDing, you should be able to stay in your lucid dreams longer as the sudden surge of excitement wears off and you become more familiar with the dream state and techniques. Just make sure to always first stabilize the dream, otherwise you can wake up or even forget that you are lucid and just continue in a normal dream, and that is no fun at all
