      Not Being Myself

I was just lucid and I rarely am, and when I realized that I was in a dream I felt kinda like "oh...... that's cool i guess". But I really wanted to become lucid. Then I did stuff that I really didn't want to do. And for some reason it was like I was watching my dream. I could see myself like I was a character in a movie.

You probably just had a normal dream about having a lucid dream. To lucid dream, you must be conscious in your dream, so you wouldn't do things that you wouldn't want to do.

You might have been lucid for a short while and then it shifted into a dream.

I'm not totally sure because I haven't really had a real lucid dream yet, but I've been reading these forums for two years. I have, however, had dreams like yours where in the dream I'm lucid, but it's not a lucid dream.

This doesn't really make sense. If you were in a dream and you realized that you were in a dream, then you were lucid.

Just because you became lucid at one point in the dream doesn't mean that you stayed lucid throughout the entire dream. Not only is it possible to forget that you're dreaming (we call it losing lucidity), it's actually very common. Another thing to consider is that a lot of the time when we're lucid, we're "not all there." We do things which we wouldn't do in waking life (beyond the obvious ones like flying). Finally, while many newbies view lucidity as either true or false - you are or you aren't - the fact is there is a whole range of levels of lucidity. I won't say much beyond that regarding levels of lucidity since it has been discussed to death in other threads (try using the search function to find some of them).

My point is that there are a number of reasons why you would do strange, uncharacteristic things in a lucid dream. And for the record, it's not possible to have a normal dream about being lucid without actually being lucid. If you're in a dream, and you know that you're in a dream, then you're lucid - period. Not all lucid dreams are grand, epic, mind-blowing affairs. In fact, most aren't.

i completely agree with DuB that it is possible (and common) to lose lucidity, and to not have great control in LDs. Sometimes you can't even control yourself. But, as he said, if you knew it was a dream it was a LD.
