What are the benefits to LDing?

Not that I think LDing is bad, it's really interesting. I'm trying to decide what I want to learn about it or pay attention to. When I think of LDing I think a lot about how you gain more control once you realize you're dreaming.

      The thing is sometimes I can gain a lot of control over a dream without ever realizing I'm dreaming. When I do that I can basicly do whatever I think of to do. When I am dreaming most of the time it's very vivid, if a little outta whack. ^^;

I think the most outstanding benefit to LDing is the extra sense of logic you get once you realize it's all a dream. What else is there, or what does it for you?

Well, for me it's basically just the thought that you get to be in a world with no rules and where everything is possible! That does it for me

Okay, besides that it's also interesting because you got so many things to work on (dream control, techniques, etc. you get the idea^^ ) so it's all just that more rewarding.

So I guess the benefit for me is the fact that you get to be in a world with no rules and where anything you wanna do is possible (and being totally concious while you do it of course, that's the magic! ). Just amazing ^^

Having no rules and working on techniques are good points. Is that what makes you want to go to sleep at night and think about it when you're awake?

Well, mostly the thought of a world where you can do anything ^^ That does it for me. I mean that's something almost everyone wants to experience, and with LD you can! I almost fell down from my chair when I first found out about LD

It sounds like it can get really complicated to dream while you're in control with logic so I can't imagine actually getting any rest once you start to lucid dream, especially if you compulsively do it without the choice. You can have so many questions!

Well from my very limited experience with lucid dreaming I can tell you that through the good longer lucid dreams I've had it haven't had any effect on my sleep, like, the nights I've been LD'ing (had 2 LD's in a row one night ) I haven't felt more tired than I normally am with nights where I can't remember anything. And once you're concious in a dream I personally don't find it any less relaxing than a normal dream Well if you have to really focus it can sometimes. I'm not sure whenever or not lucid dreaming really do have an impact on your sleep, but I guess in the end it does have some, since you're actively thinking.

It's the freaking Matrix. What else do you need?

Other than the realization and (sometimes) deepness from lucid dreams, it makes me value sleep. I sleep better now than I ever have.

Congratulations on getting those two LDs! That's actually really good to know; that it doesn't eventually make you tired. I guess I got the impression that if you're doing all that mental work, especially over a long period of time that it wears you down. It probably has an impact but even though I've been searching there really hasn't been any negative ones yet.

That makes sense in a way, I think. I don't think it has as much to do with actual LDing but becoming more aware of your mind or imagination through it, though. I would think there is no way out of that once you've been repeadedly tested against a limitless world.

Lucid Dreaming can be a great way to relieve stress and escape to your own world temporarily when every day life takes its toll. Its great for making yourself feel better, its great for putting use to that whole third (1/3) of our life that we sleep away. Its something you can use to train yourself to be more perceptive. Others use it as a form of meditation, to reflect on themselves. Not to mention you can just amazing fun.

I think my worry is since they can be so powerful and reflective of yourself in stressful times you'll need more control to make sure you enjoy yourself. It seems like people have more ammo to be more abusive towards themselves once they are in their logical state of mind. But I guess on an inner level it's not really something to worry about.
What do you think asking the secrets of the world will get you?

You don't have anything to worry about really Lucid dreaming is really good to help with stressful times! Or if there's anything else on your mind that's bugging you that's gonna be thrown at you in a dream. Like some sort of nightmare. If you're lucid you're able to control this and avoid it since you have control. So nothing to worry about! ^^

What do you think asking the secrets of the world will get you?
If you ask that question in a dream?

Thanks, SomeDreamer! Yes, I do mean asking those questions in a dream. I think it would be neat to try it!

Hehe, indeed I don't think there's anyone that'll know what happens! So should be interesting.

No, no, no. A dream being the Matrix is way too limited!!

It's what you can do in RL + what you cannot do + what you never imagined that you could do.

Well actually all you can imagine, because if you couldn't you wouldn't do it in a LD, could you?
