It has to do with chemicals in the brain more than anything. So your medication may have had something to do with it.

Lucid Dreams are simpley caused by high conscious activity in the brain when you enter a dream, the more aware you are in a lucid dream the more you become suspicious of your current state. I have a friend who has took medication for insomnia, he tells me he sleeps well but he doesn't hardly remember any dreams, recall is definitly important in lucid dreaming, if you don't remember your dreams well, that could effect your ability, both because you might forget lucid dreams, and possibly you might get less familiar with them.

I remember almost every thing and I remember so many little detail. Lucid Dreams come natural to me...even thought I take Seroquel, I had a couple Lucid Dreams before. But when I started taking my medication they became way more frequent.

Sleeping pills often knock you out rather than put you into full mental sleep. So it might be increasing the frequency of you finding yourself in bodily SP but not being mentally asleep.

SP is sleep paralyis: "a common condition characterized by transient partial or total paralysis of skeletal muscles and areflexia that occurs upon awakening from sleep or less often while falling asleep" - wikipedia.

To answer your first question, LDs are just an altered state of consiousness attained while sleeping. What causes them? Chemicals in your brain can, manipulating your brains frequncies can also...but they often occure naturally because the sub-concious and the conciouse states of mind tend to sort of "mix up" while we sleep.
