If you knew you were dreaming, it was probably a lucid, even if you did just go along with the dream. Particularly if you were lucid enough to try and change a few things.

Keep trying. Also, set some goals for yourself before you go to bed. Keep them simple, like "fly around." Once you start sticking to your goals, you know that you are very lucid.

Whether you remember dreams or not can be attribituable to many things. However, the most intuitive, and likely reason is the point at which you awake. I do not strictly mean the time that you rise in the morning, but more so the cycle of sleep that was occurring. That is, if you happened to be the midst of a REM cycle when you awoke, then you're more likely to remember the corresponding dream compared to if you awoke during a NREM cycle.

      Yes.

Firstly, when you 'go to bed' you are not immediately asleep, therefore you must consider the duration it takes for you to fall asleep--it may differ each night. Secondly, REM and NREM sleep rebound if one is deprived of such. So, if you've not had enough NREM sleep one night, then the following nights shall inevitably incorporate more NREM as compensation (Bare in mind that each cycle does not last for a precise duration, and so this varability may lead to rebounds).

Nonetheless, REM cycles become progressively longer the more you sleep and as such, the preceding points shouldn't have that much effect on the later cycles. But, it is a consideration.

REM cycles begin around 90 minutes of falling asleep. Albeit short, you should experiment with your alarm sometime, and with small increments see if you can wake up during one of the REM cycles. Even easier would be to find a nice friend who is willing to wake you up after a brief period of rapid eye movements. If this does not elucidate the random rememberings, then perhaps you should look to what you are ingesting each night, and your level of activity during the day.

      Hope that helps.

Sounds to me like you had a few seconds of lucidity and then got distracted by, and drawn into, a normal dream scenario, and lost your lucidity.

Absolutely. Do you see the corroboration with what I previously wrote? You had a few seconds of lucidity and then lost it. Archetypal.

IMO You had a lucid dream of a few seconds duration, and then got swept into a normal dream scenario and lost your lucidity. I wouldn't call it all a "lucid dream".

If FILD worked for you, I say stick with it and see if it works again. When I tried a method for the 1st time, and if worked for me, I stuck with it. ( I still am.) Even if it doesn't work for you the next time, keep trying it. it'll get you use to it. I think if it becomes apart of your routine, your mind will start to get the idea. (Hehe...that's my problem... )

I'd say it was lucid. As long as you are aware that you are dreaming, you are lucid.

I say give it 3 weeks. Not too short, yet not a month.

I've heard things from cheese to apples to chocolate. I've tried the cheese and chocolate, but nothing. It could work, but nothing beats practice.
