      Cats...

Does this happen to anyone else?

When I awake in the night to try to fall back asleep and fall into a dream, my cat ALWAYS knows that I'm up and tries to rub my neck and get right next to me.

      Why?!?!?!?!?!

right when I'm about to close my eyes and fall asleep, my cat's rubbing on me.

I don't really want to lock him out of my room, but I might have to.

I don't own a cat, but on Friday night I experienced what I thought was going to be my first successful LD experience. I got to sleep paralysis and then nextdoor's cat jumped up on the verandah and started meowing. It generally does this roughly once every six months. GREAT timing !

I suggest putting the cat in the dishwasher next time you try to LD (better not turn it on though).

My cats are outdoor cats...and I sleep inside, so I don't have this problem.

Your cat loves you. He or she can't understand what you are trying to do, so you shouldn't blame him or her for showing affection.

You could suck it up and deal with it, or you could lock your cat outside the room if you're really desperate.

Luckily, Ben enjoys cuddling about as much as myself, so I don't have to worry about making his head explode or making him want to hit his head against a brick wall or commit suicide via microwave. He's always there for me, which is a wonderful quality to find in a guardian.

Aww, how cute...sorry Yeah, sometimes my 24 pound cat decides to lay down on my face for no apparent reason. Then I gasp for breath and somehow manage to push him off my head. Then he steals the rest of my pillow. Maybe try making your cat run around a lot (if they like to chase cat toys) so that they're so tired they fall asleep too. Works with one of my cats, but the one that lays on my face refuses to lift a paw and expects the cat toy to jump in his mouth so he doesn't have to do any work.

My cat always tries to pry open my door whenever I wake up and turn on the lamp to write in my journal, and when I first try to get to sleep. I leave the door closed sometimes because he sleeps on my legs and sometimes tries to (loudly) chew through the laundry basket. So it's really only when I write in my dream journal or read until I can get to sleep that I'm kept awake.

I wish my cat would jump on my bed. She's 13, and this is her first sign of aging. She *can* jump on the bed, but has difficulty. Luckily, she can still jump on the couch...

Anyway, since I really miss snuggling my cat right now, I suggest that you incorporate your cat into a WBTB ritual. Pet your cat for a few minutes, because it will relax both of you (gradually reduce the speed of your strokes to induce kitty-sleep). If he doesn't settle within a reasonable time (15 minutes?), then I'd take different measures (do you feed him when you wake up in the mornings? Maybe he thinks it's food time since you're up.).

      Ha yeah!

My cat's like 8 and still very playful/active.

He's actually walking in the room right now avidly meowing.

He's like 18 pounds and I'm putting him on a diet so he can live longer. Since I put him on the diet he's been more active too.

I love my cat, he comes in to see me sometimes just to say hello in the middle of the night, he'll perch himself on my chest with his nose almost touching my chin and literally just stay there for a few hours unless i fall back asleep and accidentally throw him off.
