      Setting laws or rules

While in an LD, is it possible to set laws or rules in place that cannot be broken or altered with out the definate intent to do so? This would be used if you wanted to play a game in virtual reality, you set the game you want, and what can or can't be done. Is't possible?

I too am curios to know if it is possible to do so. Do you mean laws that all characters in your dream would be bound by, or just by yourself?

Of course, I'm sure you could make a game like that. Maybe a task of the month?!?!?

That's something I wanna try aswell.

At some point I'm planning to cancel my Omnipotence, and then I'll actually have to 'learn' the skills and get better.

I think it would be perfectly possible, as it is like with most of the others: you just have to believe it. So if you get yourself to believe that it is like this, then it is.

I'm planning to do that by making a seperate 'Dream World' (Hur hur, Avalon) and in this world I'm just simply not omnipotent. So instead of trying to lose omnipotence, I just go somewhere where I'm not omnipotent

Oh indeed you can, I used that to cancel any God-mod I had, then started to learn the skills and went slowly up again lol That seems boring, but when you have continuity, its just a big new world to explore <.<

It would be me and also any DC's that would be bound to the laws. I'm gonna try it when I can get control of my lucid dreams.
Post your results when you do this too

That's very interesting...it's so simple, but I've never tried that before, so I can't tell you. That would be useful though...when you say laws/rules, do you mean like "Any time I dream, I must be lucid" or "I can't have any nightmares" or other things like that? What kind of rules would you make, and would you just speak them and let them "be" or would you write them down in some kind of literal "dream journal"?

I guess you could do that too, but I meant that you could use it to create a game environment where you were limited to doing certain things, achieving certain goals or something. I think what you're saying would work the same way, it's kind of like autosuggestion inside a lucid dream. But what I'm talking about is more just manifestation of an environment that has special restrictions in place to make it more challenging etc.

Interesting. Try writing down the rules in waking life before hand. Then, before you go to sleep read through the rules thoroughly and memorize them. Then, maybe they will be the laws that govern your dream world.

I've never tried it, but seems like it could work!

This thread will most likely interest you.

It's a "game" where you basically set a number of laws for yourself and the world around you, and then enter different scenarioes, ultimately reaching a virtual-reality experience. It should be rather interesting.

Your mind actually sets rules all of the time during dreams. Gravity is the biggest example I can think of. It's a given rule, since we can't imagine life without gravity. You can change it, however. You can change and mash around the rules to your liking when lucid. A example of such rules are your own strength (like ability to punch through walls and stuff), your running speed, and ability to shoot fireballs out of your hands.

Thing is, though, that there will probably always be fluke breaking of the rules. Your subconscious pours out some weird, unpredictable stuff. If you tell it directly not to, I would imagine there would be less of a chance of the rule being broken.
