Heya
Im not sure im understanding you fully, so forgive me if i don't make sense.
Counting breaths as you fall asleep may work, but at the same time it might keep you too attached to your physical self, and so, keep you awake.
so any advice regarding not falling asleep during SP?
If you are already in 'Sleep Paralysis' then you are already 'asleep'.
My own personal technique, if i find myself suddenly unable to move, seeing weird HI, hearing crazy sounds - Is to just keep my eyes closed, imagine a scene, and go into it.
If that doesn't work, I just stand up. If you are 100% that you are in sleep paralysis, and you stand up, you will find that you are in a dream.
Too me it sounds like you are asking for better ways to stay conscious as you fall back to sleep normally. There are a few ways, such as;
- listening to a constant sound from a fan
- Listening to some white noise
- Telling yourself that you are dreaming over and over
However, in my opinion, the best way is they way that you have already said;
For getting this first wild I just let my mind take over while I sat back and watched, not getting involved but still there.
This is probably the best way. You are more likely to actually be able to fall asleep, whereas counting, chanting, listening, and generally waiting for something to happen - is just going to keep you awake.
Sorry if you have already heard this before, i do not mean to sound patronizing, but when Wilding, your aim is to fall asleep, not to stay awake. Focus is what keeps us awake. Awareness is the key to it. And it sounds like, from the quote above, that you already understand what awareness is - now its just about exercising that awareness.
I wish you well! ;D
