Melatonin is a hormone and I read that if you take them for too long it alters sleep pattern. Maybe it's because you've been taking them and now can't sleep properly? Natural sleeping pills use plant extracts not synthetic chemicals.

I think you need to start experimenting. Melatonin is (as stated above) a natural hormone your body uses during the night (from what I know.)

I, for one, initially had a fucked up sleep pattern (earliest I could get to sleep on school nights was 12:00AM). I now take 6 mg of melatonin every night and I was born with the natural ability to lucid dream.

      I definitely agree with Pickleapples.
You should start trying sleep aids like Melatonin (which is a natural hormone as stated), Valerian (a natural herbal extract), 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan, a naturally occurring amino acid), Tryptophan (an essential amino acid), or the newly manufactured Alteril (a combination of Trytophan, Melatonin, and Valerian).

I have Melatonin and 5-HTP (with Valerian in it) and have found that Melatonin, 5-HTP, and Valerian work very well. Ive never tried Alteril but Im pretty sure that it works just as good, if not, better than the three aforementioned.

Also, Melatonin and 5-HTP (probably Alteril too) increase REM sleep which usually increases the vividness of your dreams and the chances of recalling them.

      EDIT: typo

OK, Id hate to double post but you should definitely try listening to music when all else fails. This has a really low fail rate, for me at least. You should just choose a CD or put a long playlist together on your mp3 and listen away until you drift off to sleep. This almost always works for me.

But sometimes you will wake up after a few hours to take the headphones out, but that takes only a seconf and you'll be back asleep before you know it!

You can choose any type of music to do this with as long as you like it and its tolerable; I, however, suggest mellow songs to do the trick. And if you like dance/trance or anything like that, then I highly suggest it. I like these particular genres to go to sleep on b/c of the constant tempo (and relaxing melodies depending on the song).

      Hope this helps!
