Smile Life as a Lucid Dreamer: A Funny Story (well at least I think it is)

I just had quite a funny day filled with such oddities that I found myself performing copious and sometimes emergency RCs!

It started mid morning when I was visiting my mother at her flat. I was sitting on her couch enjoying a pleasant conversation over a glass of wine. All of a sudden she looks above my head and shouts out “Miss Muffet!” I think wtf and immediately go to do a reality check but first I look up to see what she’s looking at and I see this titanic sized spider hovering directly above my head! Having a morbid fear of spiders, and having had a nonlucid spider dream about a week earlier, I scream at the top of my lungs, catapult off the couch and make a mad dash across the room to safety where I start performing RCs like a woman possessed. I’m pinching my nose, looking at my hands/watch/jewellery and jumping around like a jack-in-the-box seeing if I can fly. Mum rushes out of the room and comes back with the vacuum cleaner. She chucks me the cord and shouts “plug it in!” Well pickle me… I pick up the plug only to find there is a mighty great bug on the end of it! I shriek again even more loudly, hurl the cord in the general direction of the socket, and madly start my RCs again. All I can say is, the sight of me pressed up against the back door, hyperventilating and frantically trying to push my arm through the solid glass pane must have been hilarious lol!

Well the rest of the day continued in much the same manner. I won’t bore you with details suffice to say that it was a really wacky day full of so many strange occurrences that it really wouldn’t have surprised me if I had suddenly “woken up” from real life!

I’m definitely going to be on the look out for creepy crawlies in my dreams tonight!

Lol, that's excellent. I've had similar experiences. I've noticed that, ever since I began lucid dreaming, I've noticed all the small oddities in the world. Anyone else like this?

If you were dreaming, what would you have done? The same thing? Or would you have calmed yourself and stabilized? (If so, why didn't you do this in real life?)

Have you ever considered using lucid dreaming to overcome a phobia?

Your story sounds more frightening than funny.

The funny part was thinking how I must have looked as I was leaping around shrieking and going from one RC to another in a desperate hope that it would prove to be a dream. Of course if it had been a dream I would have calmed down immediately and rubbed my hands, but sadly all RCs were passing so there was nothing to stabilise!

But yeah it was frightening! This flippin spider was right above my head and I hate to imagine how I would have felt if it had actually lowered itself a bit more and landed on the top of my head. I can't bear to think about it. I have thought of using LD to overcome a phobia actually. It's on my list of lucid goals to try letting a "friendly" spider crawl on me. I hate being scared of them. One of my concerns is that I could one day find a spider on me while I'm driving.

Yee, that doesn't sound fun at all. Once, I woke up from deep sleep to find half a living daddy long legs on my face. The other half I had rubbed across my face during sleep! I ended up sleeping on the couch for a while that night. Spiders don't bug me much, now. We've got these cute yellow ones with black boots living in the basement. <3

Let me know if you ever accomplish your goal; I am highly interested in using lucid dreaming to overcome fears! (My fear is boring. I hate popping balloons, and taking meds.)

I got over my fear of snakes in a Lucid Dream. I always tell people about this when phobias come up. I had this dream years ago when there was a giant yellow snake on my bed. It was massive and scary. I was sooooo terrified, but I knew that this was MY dream, and MY life; I wasn't going to let a snake scare me here. I went over to my bed, grabbed the snake afraid of my life, and threw it out the window. It dropped down to the ground level and slithered away. I woke up from that dream and have never been afraid of snakes since. I still dont like them very much, but I have no fear of them anymore.

Yeah I can relate- but the fact you do RC's in extreme situations is very good for LD's. I can sorta relate- A few days back all the roads were very icy and slippery and as I was running for the bus and just as I was near a crosswalk I slipped and almost fell under some cars- I did an RC right after
TAKE DV members advice with caution! some have had zero or 1-2 LD's yet act like gurus
      TOTAL LD's (almost all DILD/MILD) =160!!

I don't get why people are so afraid of bugs.
It was a funny story though, too bad you didn't get it on tape, it would have been quite fun to watch.

Sounds these bugs really seem to be (one of) your dream sign(s).

Now that you know it's more likely that you recognize one of your next dreams
without even having to do RCs while fighting them off
