My reasons for lucid dreaming are many and I could probably write several pages worth of content about it if I wanted to, but I'll try keeping it short:
Perhaps the most important thing I want to LD for is to gain a better understanding of myself and how my own subconscious works. There are so many things I'm unsure of and I'm positive I can rid myself of that doubt through lucid dreaming. I know my subconscious knows the answer so it's up to me to dig it up.
Another reason is the immense feeling of freedom I get from having a lucid dream. Having an own little world free of social barriers, the morals and opinions of others and peer pressure - what more can one ask? Only in dreams can one truly express themselves without the opinions of others influencing one's own opinion at all.
And now, ignoring all the deep, philosophical stuff - naturally I also want to LD just for fun. What better playground is there than a world that is completely your own? With enough effort, you might very well be shooting fireballs from your hands or catching a glimpse of that elusive three-headed monkey tonight. Ever fell in love with a place you saw in a picture, or perhaps the location doesn't exist outside that movie or video game? No problem - you'll just have to trick your brain into getting you there. All of us dream every night so why not get the most out of them?
And that, in short, is my reason for lucid dreaming.
