      Blind LDers?

I understand that everyone def, blind, mentally challenged, etc has dreams but what about the blind. If you are born blind you have never seen anything therefore cant conjure images that well. What would a blind person dream about? Thx for the input DV

      The blind do dream.

Because dreams are based off of our experiences, I would assume that people who have never had a visual experience in their life wouldn't dream of pictures..

Though I'm not blind, and can't confirm this myself, most sites I'm finding seem to say the same thing:

      Little?

Interesting question. I wonder if deaf people can hear in dreams; it's probably the same as with blind ones.

Blind people who can see in their dreams would have a pretty easy RC...

my uncle who is color blind (after an injury to his eye) says he can still see the colors he's blind to in his dreams

Makes me wonder if, after a while of not 'needing' eyesight, your brain will adapt to SUCH a degree that you won't even be able to see in dreams. I know it'll adapt, I just wonder if the change will be THAT drastic.

Hmm... *ponders ways to find blind people...*

i forgot the exact term, but a person who reciently lost sight will have normal dreams for a while, and eventually dream in only sound. The same way people with lost limbs retain a felling that they have it for a while. I don't know how long this lasts or anything, but i remember reading it in my travels

Cortical adaptation/plasticity is what I was thinking about, should be the same term?

well i was thinking more of the lines like someone who's blinded imediatly...like some kind of accident....a person who gradually looses sight may take an even longer time to start dreaming in sounds...since they probably still have some recoginition of shapes and colors.

True, people who have seen things will still dream right?

If a person were to start out being able to see, then become blind, and eventually start to dream with just sounds, would they be able to use dream control to bring back their vision?

If you're presuming that parts of the brain responsible for vision (real or otherwise) are wilting, then no.
I'm gonna have to read about this....

I'm not sure what I'm presuming... It could just be that they get used to not seeing so it becomes more normal than seeing is. Then again, if you stay in a pitch black place for too long you'll go blind because part of your brain shuts down. Or something along those lines.

If a blind person can see in their dream than their dreams would feel more real than their real life... O.o

What if a lucid dreamer became blind? By having dreams where they can see, they might be able to keep the part of their brain that deals with vision from wilting. That would be an interesting experiment.

I can see that working if the person is able to get lucid almost everyday, and they're excellent at memory induced lucid dreams and dream incubation. having history in visual arts like drawing painting ect would be a plus as well.
