      Can lucids ever be scary?

Well can you ever become lucid and just be scared alone by that fact, that its a dream? I know its a dumb question, but ive imagined it could be though, if it was your first time becoming lucid

"Scared by the dream"? I highly doubt that, my first lucid I was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had, and this dream was a total accident. I didn't know lucid dreaming was possible until then!

lucid dreaming can be scary yes.. it depends on what happens.
i have had many scary lucids.. but you will probably find that when you become lucid it will be the happiest moment of your life and there will be nothing to fear unless you spawn a demon or something like that =p

being scared of the realness of a lucid is common too.. sometimes i am in a dream and i am so convinced that it is real life after i do a RC i am terrified for a second that it was a dream.. but you get over it quickly when you realize you can do whatever you want =p

Do you mean just being scared because you've just become lucid or the content of the dream being scary, such as monsters etc?

I think both qualify really, as in my first LD I was falling from the sky and didn't know why, but somehow parts of it were so realistic that I kept doing a double check just in case it was real lol.

Mostly, I think if you're new to LDing in general then it could be scary just getting the lucid feeling, but first time it'll be a shock, followed by..hey cool, I'm dreaming! followed by excitement and then waking up wanting more.

Yeah, not so much just the fact of being lucid, i can imagine that would be an amazing feeling once you realize your lucid. But i mean what if the second you become lucid your mind purposefly creates terrible things and the such just on purpose you know?

I cannot believe people are doubting this. you have to realise that not only do you dream the five senses but many of your thoughts are part of your dream mind even if lucid and the same is true for emotions.

The first couple of times I did a WILD the first thing I experienced was erratic changes in emotion. This usually fitted from excitement to fear.

Just last night I had a lucid false awakening where I looked out of the bedroom window and so the sky be a psychedelic oscillation between pink and purple. Most people would find this wonderful however I was paralysed by fear (no idea why) and the colours disappeared followed by a white flash and mushroom cloud. Unsurprisingly I woke up when the blast hit.

Of course I knew all along that it was a dream however for me inexplicable dream fear is a regular occurrence and I usually use it as a dreamsign to trigger LDs.

The same also tend to go for other emotions. All that said why do people actively remove the fear from a dream? It is your only opportunity to become comfortable with your own sense of fear and thus train better coping skills for real life. I kind of like being terrified in a LD its the only way to explore your sense of fear without having to put yourself in danger.

Haven't you been talking to fellow LDers much yet? Mostly people feel elated, fear is a rarity.

If you think so, you've never been really scared

Sometimes I get lonely, which can be a little scary. Then I realize how silly I am and get on with something else.

Of course you can get scared in a lucid dream, just like how you can get scared in a regular dream. But that shouldn't be a reason to fear lucid dreaming, since in a scary lucid dream you know that it isn't real and you know that you are almighty. If anything, a scary LD should be less scary than a regular scary dream.

Of course there are scary lucids. Sure, you may (or may not...) be in control while lucid, but that doesn't mean unexpected and sometimes scary things won't continue to happen around you anyway. It's still the dream world, lucid or not.

EDIT: Uh...yeah, basically exactly what she^ said. I need to start looking at other posts before replying .

Scary lucids are very much possible.

Some people probably set up nightmares for themselves when they are lucid. Anything can happen in a dream, and remember, just because you're in a dream and are lucid, does not mean you will have full control over the dream. So if your dream starts out in a nightmare, and you become lucid, it can still be scary.

Even if a LD is scary it's a lucid dream after all so you should be able to control it and make it into something not so scary
