If you are lucid all the way to the end of the dream, it should fade as you wake up. What you can do is lie still without moving a muscle and you will enter another dream within seconds, no harm done. I have done this, my dream fades, I am in black for 10-20 seconds, then another dream fades in. Or perhaps you could lose lucidity an purpose (if possible) so you can go back to sleeping normal where you won't notice your brief awakening. Either way, SP isn't something to be scared about. If anything scary at all happens as a result of it, just remember it is all in your head, it can't touch you, and it will soon be over. Good luck.
