Lucid RPG [The Coolest Idea Ever]

I just had an idea. WouldnŽt it be cool if you could "play" an RPG using lucid dreaming?

You could do it like this:
First, draw a map, like an iland. Then make details to it, like draw villages, towns and cities, dungeons, roads, lakes, mountains etc. Make sure you remember everything about that map, make it slowly, and consentrate. Then just pick a place where you would like to start your adventure from, something like a prison. The next time you LD, try to teleport to this place. Now, you need a lot of dream control, but the next step is to stabilize this world. First of all, stabilize the dream itself. Then set "the rules"...
Make sure that the physics are right, so that everything acts just like IRL. Then, make yourself powerless. DonŽt use any dream control. You only have your weak dream body, that you can physically use to affect things.
After everything is realistic and stable, you can begin your adventure.

Now, remember this: When you begin, you may have something like prison clothes, or maybe just old clothes and a knife or something. In order for you to get better, youŽll have to gather money to buy better gear. You get money by doing quests and selling loot to merchants. You can also train yourself to be a better fighter etc.

Try not to end your LD in this world just by waking up. Go to sleep in a bed or something when you feel you might be waking up.

When you wake up, youŽll write down any new items you have, any increased skills, your money, your quest status and your location, your rank in a guild, and you write down if someone is trying to kill you..

If you die, you can restart the whole RPG or find a less rough solution.

      AND IT GETS BETTER:
Note: I do not believe in shared dreaming.
You and maybe one or even more people could adventure in the same world. This is tricky, because ofc you wonŽt actually be together. So youŽll have to find a way around that. Here is an idea on how to do that:
First you try to LD. In your dream you have your friend as your companion. When you wake up, youŽll tell your friend his status, like where he was when you last saw him etc. Then your friend LDs and does the same thing to you.
This is just a simple idea on how to do that.

Maybe even entire communities could do this, like dreamviews. This is again harder, but just to give you the idea:
We could create two factions. Each could do special missions in this world (there would be a world map somewhere so everyone knows the world). Whenever a member of a faction succeeds in a mission, he gains points to his faction. And these points make your faction stronger... for example we could decide that there are 8 major cities. The more points a faction has compared to the other, the more cities it has. And cities have shops etc..

Now, remember, that was just a rough explanation of what I mean, just to give you the idea of what I mean. I think that the "guide" I just made ainŽt nearly perfect. It just gives the idea of what I mean.

So what do you thing about this?

I think it's a cool idea, but I've seen at least two other threads on this in the past. I'm pretty sure I even attempted it once, though it never really got very far. XD

I totally never thought of this before.
      /sarcasm

This wouldn't work that well unless you had consistent lucid dreams

Yeah, I actually thought of that before. But then I realized, the reason I started lucid dreaming is because it's much more fun than RPGs. Why give up my lucid powers when I can fly on a unicorn and joust with Godzilla?

      or do this -->

Dreams are not stable enough. The place won't stay exactly like you drew it. Besides, the knife you had might randomly change into a banana and if someone tries to kill you, let me just tell you that there's no other way to get rid of them than using techniques that only lucid dreamers know

But I think it be cool if we could do something similar to this... Maybe just a story without an actual stable environment, status, inventory...

This seems to contradict the theory of lucid dreaming. The concept applies rules of sorts to a conscious dream, which doesnt make sense when you control and break those rules.
An Idea. A single idea from the human mind can build cities. An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.

Actually, it all comes to show that we like having limits since it allows us to have goals.

Okay okay I didnŽt know this had been though before.

But it still is a cool idea. And I think itŽs pretty easy to do. As long as you want it, you can make stable rules.

I don't know if its possible. I've read that using to much aggressive control decreases the dream's quality. Plus, as I said, you're knife will probably transform into something else and you'll have to constantly change it back. Plus places might not always stay the same even though I think that might be possible since you expect them to be as you know them. I normally can go in places that are the same as ones I've already went. But I'm sure there will be lots of instability in the happenings. Just saying that you can't expect everything to stay under strict rules of physics and stuff.

      Maybe we should plan something.

Or maybe we should not exactly make a map, what about just creating your starting point and visit from there. Than when you wake up, you can draw the places you visited and make a map. That be one of the goals of the game. Visit your surrunding and make a big map of it, find new places.

It's always good to keep in mind that just because billybob wrote something doesn't mean it's a fact or always true.

I know, I'm just reminding everyone to take it with a grain of salt. There's little truth with most of the stuff written on lucid dreaming. I can usually force my dream control with no consequences. Just because billybob wrote that doesn't make it so. (By the way, I'm referring to the forcing-control deal, I think we might be talking about 2 separate things )

Yeah, we are. I disagree with the forcing control = instability thing as well, I posted it for the "different universes" thing.

That was my fault. lol! I never actually used aggressive control as he calls it so I don't know how it actually feels and I assumed it was true. I'll try to be less naive next time.

But seriously, is the idea of the RPG possible? If yes we should try it, on this thread at least.

I'd say it's certainly possible. It's probably even easier if you start out in a location that people have been to before. Like a certain airport, or park, or monument, or something like that. Or a common thing, like inside of an airplane.

That's a good one. Let's start in an airplane... I think that its most likely to crash and since your in a dream your most likely to survive. That could be cool begining to a storyline!

I think we should be able to start anywhere, but the portal to the world should be a mirror. It's pretty Cliche, and easy to conjur up.

So, so far we have a RPG world where you're pretty much the same as IRL, but of course you can get stronger. So anyone want to develop this world more? Maps? Ideas?

I don't think there's any importance about which portal we use. I think the lucid dreamer that is doing it should use its favorite way. I prefer using doors since I find it easier to find a door than a mirror but I want to use a mirror one night.

Yes, we can start anywhere so maybe we should make some sort of storyline though. Lets all answers these questions and then make a vote:

1)Time? (modern, long time ago, future)
      2)General Location (describe it)
      3) Specific location of starting point (describe it)
      4) Who would the player be (general)
      5) What's happening?
      6) What do you know?

Is there anything else we should answer?

I don't think we should have actual maps. I think we should have names of places and brief descriptions, and our brains can fill in the rest. Ofcourse we'll need quests to do, and maybe we could make up some enemies we can face.

Also, what kind of RPG are we talking about? Are we talking The Elder Scrolls games, with goblins, swords and other fantasy stuff, or are we talking Fallout 3, which is set in a post-apocolyptic world, with supermutants, robots, mutated animals such as bears and giant scorpians?

      1) Time, I'm thinking long time ago. Everyone has modern dreams and we live in a modern world. Future, eh. I'm not that interested in the future in terms of RPGs.
      *skipping 2 and 3 because I'm unoriginal*
      4) The person playing, unless they want to take up another role. Also, I was wondering, since magic seems to be prevalent in most RPGs I've played, what do you guys think? I'm all for it as long as it's not overpowered.
*skipping 5 and 6 also because im unoriginal*

EDIT: Yes, I'm thinking along Elder Scrolls lines, being that they're some of the best RPGs I've played.

Also, if this were to be a community thing, a set map would be best since otherwise people can have the same places be completely different.
