      Lucid Dreams & sleeping pills

      i was just wondering if almost having a lucid dream has anything to do with me taking two sleeping pills that nite or is it just coincidence..it was my first almost LD in a long time so i was curious if the sleeping pills caused it?

      Almost lucid dream...

      Well, I've never heard of any pill causing someone to realize they are dreaming. Pills and supplements can increase vividity or decrease it. The realization that you are dreaming must come from your mind.

      That being said, it depends on your sleeping pill. Sleeping pills are depressants. They induce more deep-wave sleep, and supress REM. If you're taking an 8-hour pill, then I don't think it was the pill that helped. Generally, if you take a depressant, you'll experience less REM that night, and REM rebound the following night (to make up for lost REM sleep the night you took the depressant). For some people, REM rebound may occur later that night. REM rebound doesn't mean better dreams; it just means more time spent in REM.

      A sleeping pill will make you less aware and lessen your chances of having a lucid dream.
