Two nights in a row now..

For the last two nights in a row, I've been waking up in the middle of the night, (I usually fall asleep around 10-11 PM) and seeing spiders crawling up my wall as well as my head & feet, although my chest and legs are clean of them. I'll get up, and normally throw the covers off and run into the bathroom, which is just one door down, and kick and rip my shirt off. (I've ruined 2 good shirts this way -.-). Then to realize, It didn't really happen.
This has happened in the past, but very rarely. Now it's been about every other night for a month, and now I've had them two nights in a row.
It's beginning to become annoying, and a bit scary at nights when all the lights are off. They are so real, I can actually feel them on my feet, and crawling on my head, although I swear they aren't real. Sometimes I am frozen in my bed whilst they crawl on me. (Which never happened before, but happened last night). I do not know what is causing ths and want to really get to the bottom of the situation. Can anyone help me with this problem that I am having?

      Any help will be appriciated.
      Thank you,
      -Derek.

well it says on www.dreammoods.com if you see a spider crawling up your wall it means your desires will soon be relized. But two nights in a row? Oo thats freaky. My dreams seem to get more intense every night I try this lucid dreaming stuff man. Like crazy intense, maybe it's your brain just getting used to dreaming a lot or something, I'm not sure. let's see what some others say, I'm actually quite interested.

I'd say there hallucanations, but they usually happen when you're in SP, which you weren't because you could get up.

      You're sure you're awake? It's not a false awakening?

I'm sure, because I get up and run to the bathroom, and realize that It just happened again. (The hallucination of the spiders). And I'll return from the bathroom to my bed, and fall asleep. I'll even pet my dog a few times .
This is beginning to scare me. The day after I wrote this the night before,
I went to school and after finishing all my work, put my head down and fell asleep. I jolted up, and had another hallucination of a spider nesting right next to my binder which I had my head layed on. I ran into the hallway, and the teacher freaked out and called the principal down. I told him what happened and the situation and everyone thinks I'm basically crazy now.
I don't know what to do and now it's getting involved with my social and educational life.

I suppose You're having these hallucinations because you expect them to happen: you go to bed hoping there won't be any spiders, but because you do this you'll see them. That's why you've had them three times in a row now. You'll have to find a way to not expect it to happen. Maybe repeating a mantra like "I won't be visited by spiders tonight" as in the MILD technique before going to bed works.

Just the other night I woke up but couldn't open my eyes or sit up and I heard somebody outside my bedroom door shaking the handle. It was scary to say the least and I had to force myself to open my eyes and sit up.

(of course nobody was there and nobody shook the handle)

A few times in the past, I've awoken suddenly and jumped (literally leaped) out of bed and ran out of my bedroom in fear. I thought there was a spider on me, the other time I swear somebody was in the room with me (that time I rushed out of the room and slid down the stairs and just sat there stunned on the living room floor while my mother was like wth?

I don't know what to tell you about the bugs, I haven't found a cure for it. when I was a kid one night I opened my eyes and I saw bugs everywhere, I felt them on me and even being awake didn't seem to make them go away. I kept seeing them all over the place. I guess you just need to remind yourself that it's not real. But it's weird because you'll be awake but it's almost as if part of you is still asleep somehow. It is indeed scary!

Chase, you encountered SP, I know that one for sure.
And I will stay positive, and try not to think about the hallucinations.

It could be you being cursed by someone or possesed by something.
Usually when an event repeat it self, you need to analyze it and find its source. I do agree with the others, it could be anything.

Did you feel fear when you saw those spiders? what type of feeling did you have?

This is beginning to scare me.
The spiders have continued to happen every night,
but last night, I did what Hot Chocolate said, I did a reality check, and that's when it started. I pulled on my finger, and I felt these wild vibrations throbbing in my head, and my finger fell to the floor. The spiders dissapeared from my wall, and reappeared on my floor. My black New Balance shoes started walking! It was so freaky! I tried to scream, but when I opened my mouth to let out a scream, a laugh came out. Next thing I knew, I was waking up to my dog licking my face at the normal time I wake up.

I actually had this same experience. I was about 5 or 6 years old (I'm 17 now) but it was so intense, that is something I will never ever forget. it happened 2 days in a row just like you. This also happened to me while I was awake one afternoon. My dad made me go into my room and go lay in my bed. I wasn't asleep, I'm sure of it. But there were spiders crawling up my legs. The night before I had a horrible nightmare about spiders crawling all over my body. It felt so real. Like I said, it's something I can never forget and I never had a good explanantion for it other than it just being a bad dream.

This is definitely a false awakening. Try to remain calm and tell yourself with confidence that the spiders will go away. If you believe that they will go away, then they should. And at that point you will be lucid dreaming and you could fly away if you want.

DerekG, please get some real help from a therapist or at least somebody, because this is obviously affecting your life in a negative way. I would say that the constant spider hallucinations are a symptom of some deeper problems you are having that need to be treated, sooner rather than later.

If you know it's "just a dream" but these things still won't go away and they still sabotage your real life, you need to ask for help from those close to you and look into what's really going on. Good luck.

Usually when I am trying to get to sleep, I can imagine the energy of a living spider, somewhere in my house. I feel it, although I don't see it. Its hard to explain, and pretty strange.

Something awesome happened: After reading this thread, last night I dreamed about a horde of spiders in my house. Hilarious how that transmits! Do you think spiders may be inherently easy to dream about?

I agree with this very much. It sounds like the hallucinations are probably sleep-related, but it would probably set your mind at ease to see a therapist and confirm that. They will be able to help you with this far better than anyone here could.

On the theory that "what we resist persists," or in line with LaBerge's idea of making friends with dream enemies, I wonder if it would help to welcome the spiders, if they come back: "Oh, hello, nice to see you again, you spiders." Or, "OK, spiders, you're allowed to be here." I went through a period of having awful night terrors just after I fell asleep and received the advice to try to focus on a neutral part of my body, not my gut, where the fear was felt, but just to mentally sense the feelings in my feet, or to put my actual hands on my actual thighs and just feel them. That did help, along with reminding myself, "This is really unpleasant, but it's safe to have this experience." After I'd been through it MANY times, I stopped being afraid of having the experience--it was still really unpleasant, but it became familiar and I knew it would pass--and now it rarely happens anymore, and seems quite minor. I guess I had to get to the point where I thought "If this happens every night, that's fine" instead of "OMG, I will do anything to stop this from happening."

Could be night terrors, get it checked out, because my teacher last year dislocated a rib because of something like this...

Glad to hear it. There are times where we are under extreme stress, where sometimes things like this will happen.

For example, a year ago I was very stressed over work and I apparently had an episode of sleepwalking for the second time in my whole life.

It was very scary. I woke up in a strange place and I was absolutely terrified that I would hurt myself in another sleepwalking episode. But it never happened again, thankfully. I hope that maybe this is the case with you too, but I still think it can't hurt to get checked out by a psychiatrist just to be sure you don't have a sleep disorder or some other thing.
